Salat as found in the Qur'an

Saadiya,

Qur'an does mention congregations prayers. In the discussion about wartime verses and the Prophet offering prayers with one group of believers we have enough clues about it being a "congregational prayer".

There is indeed an order of prayers as specified in the Qur'an; Morning and Evening.

AsalamuAlikum PakistaniAbroad,

To start off with I have a single query.. umm doesn't it seem kinda wierd construction a way of salat by reading different ayats from different Surahs? This way any person can arrange them to his/her liking?

Assalamo Alaikum,

This is what i was refering to! The construction of the prayer. Like PA said, you can do it in any format, but when you're in a congregational prayer, it'd have to be in a particular order else it won't workout.

I'm a bit confused about why you are confused about 'format'. What's so difficult about taking the Qur'an and reciting parts from it? Isn't that what Maulvi sahib does in every prayer?

pk taz.. beta jub barray bol rahay hoatay hain toa chup kar kay suntay aur seekhtay hain. shabaaash. ub lollipop nikaal kay moon main daal loa.

Asalamualikum PA;

Following that line of thinking would mean that one is free to decide what their prayer would be like, and indeed then there isn't any 'format' to prayer left? Other than standing up and praying whatever?

and I saw you making a comment about how the Salat is for Allah(swt) alone and then there are those who say darood in there.. and you went on to say 'imagine' the Prophet(saww) sending blessings on himself.

Do read the following and tell me what you think:

33:56: Allah and His angels send blessings on the Prophet: O ye that believe! Send ye blessings on him, and salute him with all respect.

more later as I read.

Sidenote: *(4:86 When a (courteous) greeting is offered you, meet it with a greeting still more courteous, or (at least) of equal courtesy. Allah takes careful account of all things. *

Assalamo Alaikum,

We always pray salah in the form of fixed rakahs. There's a fixed pattern as how to start the Salah, rukooh, sujood, etc. and the same rule applies for the congregational prayers.

So let's suppose you usually pray sujood first, then the standing part, rukooh, etc. Wouldn't it then be slightly different for every individual. If yes, then is there a fixed pattern for the congregational prayers?

peace be with you both Saadiya and ammarr:

Saadiya I doubt if from all we've discussed in here one can arrive at a hypothetical scenario of anyone offering 'sujood' first before standing. It's quite clear that to 'link' to Allah one must stand and recite and terminate the 'link' with a 'prostration'.

There is no concept of 'rakat' in the Qur'an. Salat is only a rememberance of Allah Alone. The clue we get about the 'shortening of Salat in times of distress' tells us that it's a free form, cuz you cannot say that a two rakat salat is essentially "shorter" than a four rakat one in the duration of time it takes to offer it.

ammarr I'd be happy to elaborate 33:56 in another thread, but for now what makes you think this 'sending blessing' has to be done in your Salat which is for "remembering Allah Alone"?

Truly, guidance is from Allah :swt: and many that receive it throw it away in their preconceived notion of being smarter…
