Salary Calculators - How accurate?

You can find these online.. input your current income and location and select any destination and they’ll give you an idea of what u should make there to ‘maintain the standard’..

but often it seems kinda absurd.. I know dense metropolitan areas are expensive and all.. but when they start converting modest salaries in the midwest to expectations of $120,000 to ‘survive’ for a job in downtown Chicago e.g. are they stretching it or is it really that damn expensive to live there?

Re: Salary Calculators - How accurate?

I mean the price of eggs and bread aint all that diff but you have to factor in real estate costs, those are the biggest killers. so if you either move outwards or downshift on the size of house it would lessen the impact.

compare prices of comparable homes in comparable residential areas in the two cities and see.

Re: Salary Calculators - How accurate?

Also, do these calculators take into account State and City Income taxes???

Re: Salary Calculators - How accurate?

not sure

Re: Salary Calculators - How accurate?

Whenever I moved I looked them up and they were no help at all. The best is to visit the grocery stores, real estate agent yourself in the 'house hunting trip'.

Re: Salary Calculators - How accurate?

yeah that's what I thought.. cuz if u look up comparable salaries on the payscale front, things aren't that rosy.

in a way i kinda feel people in the midwest have it much better.. get paid about the same but the cost of living is really low..

Re: Salary Calculators - How accurate?
