Salamz...

I don’t hardly ever gripe about anything on this board, this being a free service that it is and for whose usage I thank Azkar…

Thank you Azkar…

Now, that being aside, I would like to ask you the reason behind the signature being so limited and no personal avatar options…

I know it’s not the bandwidth or storage issue…You have uploads day and night at excellent connection speeds, so why the miserly attitude towards these two things?

I think a 50 x 50 avatar plus a 250 length signature would be a very decent and aesthetically correct welcome to everyone’s liking…

This is a request, nothing more…Consider this please…

Re: Salamz...

Laja - boys being boys, you know what will happen if avatars are an open option. Bathing babes, some borderline perv pic.

Also girls sigh do this these days too.

But the sig thing :) I wondered that myself

Re: Salamz...

Although this message is addressed to Azkar, I will still reply so that you don't have to wait for a long time for Azkar's reply in case if he misses this thread.

This is a discussion board, not a message board or a chat forum. The prime focus should be on the topics that we discuss here. If we have larger avatars and larger signatures, our attention will be diverted from the topic and those avatars and signatures will be nothing but distractions. Personally, I've seen message boards that allow you to have larger and animated avatars as well as allow you to have images inserted in the signatures. I am sure you've seen those too and those are just distractions when you see some huge and some tiny avatars and images in the signatures take half of the screen. Although I understand that you only want 50 x 50 and 250 words but you see where I am coming from?

As far as the question why users aren't able to upload it themselves and why they have to beg Mr. Custom to upload it for them is concerned, the answer is that since we have upgraded Gupshup to a newer version, we are thinking about having that option for users. At this moment, this option is available only to the moderators and we are testing it. It will be available to members as well Inshallah. Why is it being delayed? Because there are bigger problems that we have to take care of before we focus on these minor issues as they are not a must on our things-to-do list.

Re: Salamz...

Lajjo think of hte limitation on signatures and avatars as a cyber-hijab so to speak. You don't want fancy graphics, fonts and sizes to take away from the true beauty of ones posts. :Pretty:

Re: Salamz…

Lajo, by just the way you began your post, I can tell that you are such a faker.

Be authentic for once, man.

Re: Salamz...

Shikra answere your query already. Let me add a few things here.

First, it we really dont want this place to look like Disneyland or like Las Vegas at night. I am not sure if you have been any of those forums, where all size avatars and signatures are allowed. When you open a thread there. All you see is flashing banners in signatures, and animated full sized avatars, and posts full of externally linked pictures, links and maybe just a few words sometimes. I can tell you it is not a pretty sight and a torture for your eyes.

Re: Salamz...

Couple of things you mistook about my request...

This post is not addressed to Azkar, but to all Admins...And mods, if you happen to be influential enough to implement some change...

I am not proposing uploading the avatars yourself, instead they go through the same channels as before, just that their sizes be 50 x 50...

As for signatures, 150 characters is what is needed just to start expressing your opinion, the 100 extra characters I am requesting would permit many of us to cram our thoughts into that itsy bitsy place...

And that distraction excuse is really old and really doesn't sound authentic...Although I believe it is true, you know like women and men not pray together so as not to get distracted...

But to apply that theory to a bulletin board sounds absurd...It was so easy for me to read the selective replies just by the design of the avatar and my peripheral vision and ignore those that I wanted to ignore...

I have been to other BBs besides this one Guys...I have seen BBs where a linked image can be your avatar, no matter what size and people kind enough to upload very decent ones...And I have been to an Indian BB where the avatars and sigs had no limitations, and on very few BBs have I found garishness such as I witnessed there...I have seen BBs where avatars and sigs are not allowed...It was a BB for miners...

So I know a few places with many options and I say this with the best of intentions, the changes will add decent decor to Gupistan...And I think there were some very tasteful avatars on this BB itself...

Come on Shikra, I remember you, Jonny and mushy's avatars ...You guys uploaded your avatars, and due to the damn size restrictions, your faces came out looking as if they had been through a gannay ki machine...:D

Wouldn't at least 50 x 50 guarantee a better probability of the avatar actually looking like the postee?

Sara: You know I am not the kind to be moved by appearances...It's the substance that matters most to me...:D

But then again...I am such a faker...:ThatSmilieWhichRipsItsMaskOffWhichICantRememberTheCodeTo:

Re: Salamz...

Since I will be the person who'd end up deciding and implenting any such changes, so may as well take it upfront.

Thanks for the suggestions, Lajawab. We really need members to come up with such suggestions as these let us know whats on your mind and whats important for our members to have an excellent GS experience.

Now on to your two suggestions.

I am not too keen on big and animated avatars, and, if its ok with you, I will keep this suggestion on hold, for now. For custom avatars, our bigger concern is to finalize a system of making timely updates. Signature length is really not that big a deal. At the time we upgraded to this new version, I basically put a line in the sand to stop extra long signatures. I don't use signatures myself, but I do realize that people like to put stuff in theirs and this is fine by me. I just think, long signatures are distracting (especially if they are colorful, bold and what not). If a limit of 250 makes more sense, I have no problems.

Thanks again.

Re: Salamz…

have a look at this thread:

if you can decifer this whole thread in 5 seconds then…tumhari saari maangain poori kar di jayengi

Re: Salamz…

So the guy’s lookign for a quiet pump and wants to know which is quieter, Eheim or Swiftech…

Re: Salamz...

You didn't read the whole thread in 5 seconds, did you?

Re: Salamz...

Sara, those are not your kinda pumps, so stop trying to figure out what they are :p

Waisay, that was just one example. Open any thread in that forum and you'll only see flashing images. and a few words between them.

Re: Salamz...

Images in signature No, never. Man you will see big images everywhere like some other forums.

Avatar, well I think avatar rule is totally non-sense, only 32x32 (.35 kb only lol) size limit for which you have to request someone, which is also not available now. Avatars in the avatar gallery are the ugliest avatars i have ever seen.

Enabling upload option and allowing 80x80(3kb only) size limit and .jpg format not anyother to aviod animated avatars will not make any effect in browsing forums.

Re: Salamz…

Yea I wish we had bigger avators :frowning: There’s no way I can fit the pink panther in a 32x32 box :teary1:.

Re: Salamz…

Gizzy…First decipher my post and find out what two things I am requesting…Of which one has been kindly fulfilled by Faisal…

Faisal: Thanks for this Kher Andeshi yaara…:k:
