Salalah and Dalkut, Oman

This week I was in oman for 3 days, we had 5 days off for Eid-ul-Adha

Salalah is Oman’s 2nd largest city, and birth place of Sultan Qaboos, the ruler of Saltanat Oman. Although the right time to visit this place is from July to Sep (the moonsoon season) when the city and towns around it turn lush green due to heavy rains… now in november because all the waterfalls and a couple of rivers (which are the main attractions of Salalah) were already dried out, we decided to go to Dalkut which is a border town near Yemen. From Dubai to Salalah is around 1200KM, Dalkut is further 150KM from Salalah.
We left at 4:30am in the morning on 16th November, offered Eid Prayer in Al Ain near Mezyad border. Visa/immigration process took almost 1 hour. at least 80% of the area was same, that is desert, with no population at all, sometimes no sign of life and no fuel for 100s of kilometers. rest of the details with pictures

First view of Salalah City looks like this

we reached Salalah at 9:30pm, spent good 2 hours looking for some place to stay

Re: Salalah and Dalkut, Oman

Yes! It drizzles over Salalah Hills by the sea during June-September and they become lush green!

Re: Salalah and Dalkut, Oman

Next morning we left at 10am for Dalkut, the distance is not more than 150 KM, but almost half of the road passes through mountains with lots of turns and twists, road is totally damaged at some areas

Near first army check post on the way to Dalkut, this place is 1046 meters above sea level, Arabian sea is not very clear in the background

Leaving from Dalkut, looking back

From Salalah to Dalkut and back, several times we had to stop because of them : D, couple of times some camels suddenly appeared from no where, stop in the middle of the road refused to move

On our way back to Salalah

While going back to salalah, we stopped at Marneef Cave and Maghsayl

this marneef cave is not realy a cave as there is no entrance anywhere into the mountain, dont know why they call it a “cave”

there are few natural blowholes there, Water comes out of these holes like a fountain. due to holidays, this place was too much crowded

Thanks for sharing. Salalah - outstanding natural beauty.

Re: Salalah and Dalkut, Oman

exactly! saw a lot of pictures of Oman in the “Khareef” season (that’s what they call the moonsoon season, it means “Autumn”). now when we went there in mid november, all the greenery had turned dark brown
