Any source of his conversion? Why controversy of his conversion to Christianity spread? Was there any actions by him where Christians were given more importance than Muslims?

This was an outdated view. It came from the belief held by those historians that since Saladin allowed a Christian Priest sent by the Pope to stay with him for a while, that he had secretly converted.
