Maybe the prophet never brought it up because he was an Arab and spoke Arabic?
It was an Arab empire as much as as Islamic that they were spreading. The Arabs were the rulers and the civilization reflected Arab values, tastes, and traditions.

No I do not think that is the case. I believe that even though the Prophet (SAW) was an Arab, God knew there were other nations with other languages in the world. 
Perhaps a prayer in one language was to help people feel united? I would not know. All I meant was that if people do not understand Arabic, they can learn the ayas (verses) yet also learn the tranlastions so they know what they are reading.

There are many, but that is as good a reason as any for why God would not require everyone to learn a different language to communicate to him.

We can offer dua (prayers) in any language. Its perfomring the 5 obligatory prayers that should be read in Arabic...
