On my wedding, my parents gave around $600 cash and a watch.

I did not agree with this decision but apparently if they hadnt done that, unki beizzati hojati.

Brides are usually given gold stuff/jewellery instead of cash. It can be a whole set or just earrings or a ring.

^ yes.. A ring or earrings.. or if its cash i has to be 5000 or 10,000... 50,000 is too much...

At my wedding, I got a ring each from all the jethanis and my devrani (well devrani to be at the time)...at the devar's wedding all us jethanis gave one.

I also received (and gave subsequently) salaami as well.
