has anyone heard of that dish over here ? I’d wager not its mostly a UP migrants dish. anyway I was missing ammi ka sakhpaita and was wondering if anyone knew how to make it.
its basically maash ki daal with spinach and lots and lots of seasoning.
yup, we make it at home..its called sugpahta or daal saag..we make it with green white daal or black and white daal(sorry, i am not good with names)..basically you boil the spinach with daal..and add salt, red chillies powder, some garam masala..and for baghar..we add onion, zeera, green chillies and ginger ( i dislike ginger..so i don't add that at times) :-)
alrite.. Heres how my ammi makes it (i made it with pretty much the same ingredients.. turned out okay.. tho not perfect)
Mix mash ki daal (urad daal over here) and palak (500 gms spinach for 1 cup of daal) and add a little water, altho spinach khud bhi pani choreta hei. add ginger thori si, garlic 1-2 sides kati hui, one small onion,
mint leaves (podina) 8-10, dil leaves (soya) 1/2 bunch, green chillies 4-5 kati hui. cook all this in a regular pot (not pressure cooker) and keep checking that theres enough water takay nichay na lagay aur consistent rahay. when the daal is soft (about 45 minutes) add salt, laal mirch, khataee powder (one chamach) aur black pepper powder. baghar with onion, zeera, red chilli sabut and heeng (i dont know what that is)
