If you know of any name 'em and why did they become such? whats the story behind 'em. Not Prophets but Saints ![]()
I personally do not believe Islam has "saints". For anyone who believes it does, I'd like to see references from Qur'an and Sunnah. I will just read it, not debate the matter. Thanks.
The Quran does refer to the "friends of Allah" and says someting like "they do not suffer nor do they feel pain" -Allah forgive the inaccuracy of the quote. I have not got a English Quran with me, and lent the one I had to a mate, but this is a reference to the "Awliya ul Allah" as the Arabic calls "friends of Allah".
Saint as in Awliya? There are some names.. Rabia al-dawiyah, Malik Dinar, Ibrahim, Ali Ibn Abi Talib ..and others
It's due to their constant remembrance of Allah swt and their simple life with little to none material possessions
Google: those names why are they Saints, there has gotta be some story behind them?
In the turkish community I hear there is a Saint that carries our Prophet's pendulum to date and the pendulum is a sign of authenticity cuz they are supposedly the real "syed" through his daughters linearity or some jargon like that.
In the Indo-pak community I hear this persons name a lot, Ghaus. Whats up with invoking these guys to ask Allah especially since he's passed away.
I too think islam has no saints...caus saints are for christians...
Well Coco, Saints are Awliya right? Or do you have any other meaning for it? Anyway..If you donโt believe that saint/awliya exist then there is no point in having this discussion right?
...Another example is Maryam Bint Emran (the mother of Prophet Isa (as)). You can find her story in the Quran.

Well...Coco I have no Idea what or who Ghaus is? Maybe he is some leader of some Tariqa or Tribe.
As for the pendulum and things...This is the first time I am hearing it. There are some Sufi Tariqa that venerates their leader (Pir Shahib) and somewhat try to link it with our Holy Prophet descendents. Not very sure about their geneology..maybe ..or maybe not.
As for Syed..We have a lot of them in Pakistan. I think they try to trace back their lineage to our holy prophet.
Saint or Awliya are very special kind of people. Selected for their piety and piousness. Usually the Identity of Wali's is very well known among the people. Take for example Rabia from Iraq. You can find her life story everywhere. These ppl are example for us. We should emulate their life style to reach the highest degree of faith โ the faith of awliya.
for those people who mentioned some names of Saints:
in christianity it's the pope who makes someone a saint......who fullfils the role here?
but anyway, i have the feeling that certain "pirs" are thought of as saints by their "mureed".
Pir PagaRa
Hazrat Faridu-ud-din Gunj Baksh Ali Hajveri Rehmat ullah Elaih (patron saint of Lahore and my Saint too. He is the King of all Saints, both local and imported).
...and why did they become such?
It was a difficult career decision. They could also become electric engineer or doctors. But they chose sainthood. More money I guess.
Saint Roman of Kharbooza da Pind. I don't know...just doesn't have the right ring to it. Too seedy!:p
Motto: Spread the seed.

Minor correction: for the Roman Catholic Church the pope determine who is made a "saint". According to the Bible (New Testament), ALL CHRISTIAN BELIEVERS are "saints" (or should at least live like saints).
oye Yaroo, commmmmmmmmmmmmoooooon
how can u believe Islam doesnt Have sainth!!!!!!!!! its shocking man.
Watever Happened to Shaikh Abdul Wadir Jeelani, Data Ganj Bakhsh, Shiek Farid Ud Din Attar, Baba Farid Ganj Shakkar, Hazrat Owais Qarni,
And Btw Ghaus Ul Azam stands for Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani, The greatest Sufi and Saint of Islam.
Islam does have saints--all the Sahaba for a start were also awliya Allah--(Friends of Allah i.e. saints)
Then all of the famous Sufis in our history--too many to count are saints!
Just in Indo-Pak we have got so many great wali Allah (saints) that it is a great blessing:
eg Sultan al Hind Khawaja Gharib Nawaz Moinuddin Chishti
Hazrat Saleem Chishti
Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh Sayyid Ali Hijwiri
Hazrat Ganj e Shakar Baba Farid
Hazrat Sultan Bahu
Hazrat Mian Muhammad Bakhsh
Hazrat Shahbaz Qalandar
Hazrat Nizamuddin Awliya
Hazrat Gesu Daraaz
Hazrat Ghaus Gwaliyari
Hazrat Abdul Latif BhiTai
Hazrat Shams Multani
Hazrat Baba Waris Shah Sahib
Hazrat Amir Khusro Delhvi
Hazrat Sabri
Hazrat Khawaja Bakhtiyaar Kaki
Hazrat Sarmad
Hazrat Imam e Rabbani Shaykh Ahmad Sirhindi
and just in the 20th century we've had amongst many others:
Ala Hazrat Imam Ahmad Riza Khan Barelvi
Hazrat Pir Sayyid Jama'at Ali Shah Alipuri
Hazrat Sayyid Jama'at Ali Shah La-Saani
Hazrat Pir Sayyid Mihr Ali Shah GolRawi
Hazrat Mufti e Azam Hind Mustafa Riza Khan
Hazrat Zinda Pir
Hazrat Pir Muhammad Karam Shah
And not to forget of course famous non-desi saints of Islam such as
Ghaus al Azam Hazrat Sayyid Abdul Qadir Jilani Baghdadi
Sultan al Awliya Hazrat Khawaja Muhammad Bahauddin Shah Naqshband
Hazrat Shaykh al Akbar Muhyuddin Ibn al Arabi
Hazrat Mawlana Jalal uddin Rumi
Hazrat Sayyid at-Taifa Junayd al Baghdadi
Hazrat Sayyid al Arifeen Bazayid Bistami
and the list is endless...!!
All of the above are--by consensus of the Ummah!--awliya which means they are the beloved Saints of Allah!
:)
May Allah be pleased with them all and sanctify their secrets! ameen!
"Verily on the awliya (saints) there is no fear and nor do they grieve!" (Koran Sharif)
:)
khaak e paaye awliya Allah
Asif
Asif yaar..good to see you back. Do you have any list of the Female Saints?
NYA --hiya! :)
There are also many female saints too but they are not as well known--because traditional pious Muslim women have always observed purdah.
The most famous female saint of all, of course, is Hazrat Rabia Basri aka Rabia al Adawiyyah may Allah sanctify her secret. A lot of books have been written on her--eg see Margaret Smith's book called, I think, "Rabia".
Then of course all of the female Sahaba were also higher in rank than the awliya! (In Ahle Sunnat aqidah the Sahaba are higher in rank even than the awliya because of their proximity to Allah's Messenger sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam).
The Mothers of the Believers --the wives of the Blessed Messenger sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam --of course too come in this category.
Then there was the sister of the famous Sufi Hazrat Habib Ajami (Habib the Persian) who was a very great saint!
Also the sister of the celebrated martyr and Sufi Hazrat Husayn ibn Mansur al Hallaj. Her spiritual attainments are said to be extraordinary!
Shaykh al Akbar Muhyiddin Ibn al Arabi names a lot of his female spiritual guides and saints he met in his book "Sufis of Andalusia" (that's the English translation it is available under from Amazon).
**
Read the Tao of Islam which demonstrates that when in comes to spiritual attainment there is no difference between men and women's capacities.
**
I am sure there are others too whose names i don't know.
:)
Thats some good posting big Bro.
