I remember reading that he fought in Jhansi Rani Lakshmibai’s army in 1857.

Maybe because the “sains” on the shrines keep their appearance as such.

Its local culture to wear such things. Religiously there is nothing compulsory to wear and as far as I know it is discouraged in Islam. These Sains believe that a particular stone contain specific characteristics and not suitable for everyone to wear them.
