saif-ul-malook test

for all the punjabi speakers…

i am going to post a scan of saif-ul-malook… everyone should translate one shair to urdu and let somone else translate the next one. This way we will learn the meanings of some words which some of us dont know.

so here goes…

first shair:

jin ko kissa sunan’ny ki talab ho gi wo kissa sun kar khush ho jain gey…
jin kay seenay main ishq ho ga, wo subha uth kar roa’in gey

Re: saif-ul-malook test

he who is desperate to tell a tale, will settle upon hearing a tale…
and he who has love in his heart, will awake crying!

…english is such a crap language!..:smack:

Re: saif-ul-malook test

:(....

Re: saif-ul-malook test

ooy you were suppose to translate the next one in urdu :smilestar: not the same one in english…

yeah i agree english ruins the poetry

Re: saif-ul-malook test

Re: saif-ul-malook test

what really hapened at saiful mulook?

Re: saif-ul-malook test

its a qissa of how a prince falls in love with a pari :stuck_out_tongue:

the objective of the qissa is not a romantic novel, rather the poet tries to convey soofyana messages as mentioned in this page of the book.

Re: saif-ul-malook test

^ im gonna read it now :chai:

Re: saif-ul-malook test

Re: saif-ul-malook test

Re: saif-ul-malook test

Shaier ki Azmaish Hai Iss Qissey main Bhai
Har rang main Khush Sukhn ho yeh us ki Dannai

Khushioon main aisa Dard us ne Dil main Jagaya
Sift ko Sift main Biyan kary, Baat ko baat sey bannaya

Re: saif-ul-malook test

:k:

the translation for the third shaer was a bit off…

khushioon main khush ho, aur dard byan kartay hovay apnay dil main bhi wohi dard jagay…
sift ko sif main bayan kary, har shair main doosray say barh kar

Re: saif-ul-malook test

Translation is not word by word but to express the same feelings, other wise It will be Nassar not Seher,

I think the following will be better.......

Khushioon main bhi wesa hi, Dard us ne Dil main Jagaya
Sift ko Sift main Biyan kary, Baat ko baat sey bannaya

Re: saif-ul-malook test

Re: saif-ul-malook test

bhai meray… haali ka muqadmaa-e-shair-o-shairi parhaa hai?
wo kehtaa hai kay aik zubaan ka shair doosri zubaan main translate karna… iss tarhaa kay asli baat bhi mehfooz rahy aur naya shair bhi poora twazun liye hovay ho… sub say mushqil kaam hai..

i m not that talented :bummer:

Re: saif-ul-malook test

bookworm is quite talented...my knwoledge of the urdu/punjabi laguages is not tht much....but from what i read of BWs post- sounds good 2 me....poetry shudnt be translated from the language it was written, since it loses its true essence, and the meaning goes!

Re: saif-ul-malook test

shoule be re-phrased to:
Hi, does anyone have a picture of Mirza Ghalib?

....
I think no one would have a pic of him, google it yaawr!
