Whats the safest distance to keep while driving?

I asked my bro to keep a distance of atleast 2m and he laughed at me saying tht the other cars will come in..is it true?

ldepends who is driving a car in front of u .... if a man then 1 meter is enuff .... but if woman then i think atleast 1km ...hehe
