Saeed confident of regaining place in World Cup squad

KARACHI: Pakistan’s seasoned opener Saeed Anwar remains confident of passing a fitness test on Wednesday (December 18) and winning a place in the World Cup squad.
Saeed told ‘The News’ in Karachi on Monday that the medical panel of the PCB will examine him on Wednesday in Lahore.
The national selectors are expected to announce the World Cup squad on December 22.
“I am confident of passing the test because I have working out under the supervision of Dr Tauseef Razzak and have also been having nets with the National Bank team in Lahore three hours daily,” Saeed informed.
The left-hander is going to represent the bankers as a guest player in the domestic season.
Saeed has been out of the favour with the selectors for the last two months and was dropped for the twin tours of Zimbabwe and South Africa despite the fact that Pakistan is still struggling to find a dependable and consistent opener in the mould of Saeed.
Saeed said he had thought about retiring from the game after recent disappointments but had then decided to fight it out and try to win back his place in the team.
“I am doing this because I am fit and in form and I believe I can be useful to the team in the World Cup and after that,” he said.
Saeed has appeared in 55 Tests and 242 One-day Internationals Link
well Saleem Elahi is a good opner but mostly inconsistent and Saeed, when in form, always gives a good start. Insha'allah he will regain some form and be nin worldcup squad.
I know a lot of people have started liking Elahi after those 3 centuries, but I personally think he is not suitable for fast & bouncy tracks. He looks very uncomfortable on fast tracks outside off stump. Bowlers like Mcgrath, Lee, Shane Bond, Pullock, Ntini will be real problem for him on those pitches.
Saeed Anwar is a seasoned opener and he has proved his metal in all conditions. On the other hand Saeed has been totally out of practise and its kinda stupid to have him make a comeback in the world cup and expect him to perform. Pakistani selectors have made a lot of blunders, experimenting too close to the world cup is not a way of finding the right combination.
In the South African tour apart from the first match we went in all the matches with make shift openers. Kamran Akmal, Shahid Afrdi. They are both all rounders. After that sending in Razzaq one down is even dumber. That is the most important position and should be given to the best batsmen in the side. While changing batting order according to the team needs is perfectly understandable but we shouldnt be doing that on a regualr basis.
Kamran, Afrdi, Razzaq can prove more useful down the order once we have a reasonable platform cause they can start making quick runs right from the word go, on the other hand Inzi, YoYo and Younis would like to spend some time in the middle before they start going for the big ones.
P.S.. Sorry about the long post just taking a lot of frustration out.
