I will definitely label him a legend. He was real gentleman both on and off the field. At the crease he used to swing his bat as if he had been a veteran.I always admired l and liked this man eversince I happened to watch his batting in 1996 World cup quaterfinal against India at Bangalore. That was breath taking one and he and Sohal gave a splendid start off to Pakistan.
(Still I believe that match was a fixed one and Azhar made a big amount)…
Anwar at the height of hjis career had to leave ,infact chosen to leave after the sad demise of his daughter…Aiysha,I believe…
He was a computer engineer from Karachi,I heared somewhere.
How can any cricket fan forget Saeed Anwar. IMO, he was THE best opener Pakistan produced. I can never forget his flicks off the wrist. I miss those 100+ runs opening partnerships.
(Still I believe that match was a fixed one and Azhar made a big amount)
The match was fixed in favor of India and still Azhar made a big amount of money ?! I don't get it.
@Topic. Saeed, tere janey ke baad teri yaad a'yee. May Allah (s.w.t) bless him for contributing in the improvement in Mohammad yousuf in terms of batting skills and beliefs.
Yes that match was surely fixed............ You know the way Ijas and Salim played? They only crept the Pak innings..No doubt it was a fixed one.
Mystatement abt Azhar.I withdrawand regret.
But still I won't exhonerate him.He was a legend in `fixing matches'.
ahh ijaz ahmed and salim malik, like someone wud actually pay em for not playing good !! they do have some nice innings in their career but they werent good enough to get paid for not scoring. abt match fixing i dunno why do we always try to blame our cricketers if our team loses. Am so glad our nation kept inzi and Anwar out of these blames but at times very disappointed when someone blames akram for match fixing.
on the other hand i still dunt know how come Mohammed Yousaf, youhana at that time didnt play the final of 1999 ?
I think he left at the right time .....
atleast he didnt shared the same faith as some of other legends of pakistani cricket
FLASHBACK! He never left, he was forced out.
If you guys remember the 2003 World Cup, when he scored that 100 against India and his last innings was a 40 not out in the washed out game against Zimbabwe. The ONLY Pakistani batsmen to score a 100 in that WC. Then came Aamir Sohail as the Cheif Selector and he made wholesome changes and getting rid of everyone he hated in the team; Waqar, Wasim, Saeed Anwar, etc. That's what brought his demise and after not getting selected for over a year, he then announced his retirement from Cricket. Who replaced him at first, it was Mohammed Hafeez. LOL.
i think saeed did announced his retirement before worldcup .....
unlike waqar ...........
u mean 2003 worldcup ? i think he announced his retirement after worldcup when he was dropped, and he did it as soon as he was dropped... He scored 2 centuries in that worldcup and was heighest scorer from pakistan.
The infamous words of Aamir Sohail (Cheif Selector after EC 2003), rebuilding for the next world cup. Till today they havent found the opener to replace Saeed Anwar 5+ yrs later.
