Saeed Anwar Coming Back?

Salams All,
Check out the exchange between Woolmer and one of the posters on his site. I am a huge of fan of SA and I think he can still contribute a lot to the side, not just scoring runs but more importantly in grooming the up and coming youngster, particularly left handed openers, a la Butt, Umer, Farhat, and etc.

I say we are start a grass roots effort to facilitate and convince Saeed Anwar to make a comeback. We need him, particularly our brittle batting needs him. Imagine if he had been in Australia, I am sure Pakistan would not have been embarrassed like they were, he would have scored atleast one century there…

Hey Bob,
was just reading thru your questions, and noticed that you said saeed anwar would be valuable if he were still available. After the 2003 world cup, Saeed Anwar made it clear that he would still make himself available for the team because he believed that he was required. This was before your time with pakistan obviously, and he was unceremoniously dumped by the PCB without any consideration, as were the other senior players apart from Inzaman who eventually made a return. But my point is that the type of guy Saeed is, I’m sure that if he were approached he would be more than happy to play for or help coach him country. I think he’s still good enough to play as in his last ODI innings he scored a century against india in the world cup and was showing all the class he has acquired over his years of experience and this was after taking an extended break from cricket due to a family bereavement which meant that he wasn’t participating in the domestic circuit, just returned for the wc. so to sum up, give him a call!! he’ll want to come back!! Hi Billy,
Interesting he should tell me that he would like to play!

Re: Saeed Anwar Coming Back?

I officially knight thee to tame this fire dragon and deliver him to the pit :p

Serious man,,,lets instigate,,stir few emotions etc,,,:D

Re: Saeed Anwar Coming Back?

I know.....lets for the sake of old memories of yore, despite the unlikelyhood of this happening stir something.

However, Woolmer is a man who is open to suggestions, if enough of us write to him on his site on this issue, I am sure he will take it up as he has done on other issues. I have already written him. Lets see how it transpires.......

Re: Saeed Anwar Coming Back?

Aah c’mon… why do we always look for point solutions for our problems that are more long-term.
What’s Saeed gonna do for the team in the long-term?

I’m in favor for Saeed coming in to share his experiences with the youngsters and possibly coaching them, but the idea of him coming back to play is just plain absurd!

Let’s not be myopic in resolving our problems and instead strive to groom our team and nurture it from its talent to its success - let the bygones be bygones.

Re: Saeed Anwar Coming Back?

A simple answer to that is, we will not produce another Saeed Anwar or any batsman of his caliber ever again, no matter what. So, lets strive to enjoy him while we can, before its too late......

Re: Saeed Anwar Coming Back?

Didn't you guys read the answer: "Hi Billy,
Interesting he should tell me that he would like to play!
Bob. "

Its pretty clear he doesnt want the old eggs who are still better than the new one. Ask any coach they will say this all the time. but they would be happy with the new squad!

bottom line: that was an opinion and simply replied, end of story.

Re: Saeed Anwar Coming Back?

end of the day it’s pakistans’ loss to not have a player of mr. saeed anwar’s calibre in the side. the guy is respected worldwide by the cricketing world need, he has proved to everybody how good he is but sadly he was another victim of the shady pcb. bera gharak hou un sabh ka

CheGuvera Bhai,

Learn to live for today, basking in yesterdays achievements will do nothing, but break your heart.

Re: Saeed Anwar Coming Back?

Today is not all that promising, I rather bask in the distant memory of the past glory and a frivolous belief that it can restore, then the ignominious present.....
