Looking for an Islamic perspective on the following.
i was told by two Muslims that, after certain experiences, one should do sadqa. i got into two separate car accidents within a month in which, Alhamdulillah, no one was seriously injured but the accidents were of a serious nature. i was told i should do sadqa. Is there an authentic Hadith (and if so which one) in which Hazrat Muhammad, peace and Blessings be upon him, is reported to have done sadqa? Does the Quran mention sadqa?
Would appreciate accurate insight & thanks in advance.

sadqa is just a way of thanking Allah (swt)... that's all... remembering Allah...
but there is nothing wrong with that either...
why do you say it's superstitious? be careful of words you use..
there is a hadith when a man came to Prophet (saw) asking About islam and of all the other questions He (saw) told him that you have to give zakat, and the man asked, "is there anymore?" and Prophet (saw) replied "no, but if you will, you can give alms to the poors (charity)"....
I've only got one hadith on me at the moment that may answer ure Q (partially)
Prophet (saw) said, "If one give in charity what equals one date-fruit from the honestly-earned money and Allah accepts only the honestly earned money --Allah takes it in His right (hand) and then enlarges its reward for that person (who has given it), as anyone of you brings up his baby horse, so much that it becomes as big as a mountain
Allah knows best, Ask Allah.. but we know that charity ('even a sincere smile is an act of charity') is part of our daily livings... Every person has 360 joints and one has to give charity for all daily. and that's in a hadith.. so there is nothing wrong with giving charity when something bad happens.. it is to seek Allah's protection and thanking Allah that you are safe and ok... our life is a blessing & trust to Allah (swt) that we have to return in perfect order.. as well as our souls....
:) Whats the harm in Thanking Allah, "Thank you Allah for letting me see the day of light out of this horrid so and so and in your name I give this bla bla bla"
I was told that there is an ayat in the Holy Book that say something like this 'when you travel (safar) give out sadaqa'. Don’t exactly know where the ayat is. Please someone if you can find this ayat. We can give out sadaqa at anytime, anyplace and that is good thing to do.
There is a story (I am not sure the validity of this story) about a man who went out to gather some firewood and our holy Prophet told his companion that this man is going to be bitten by a snake.
Later in the evening people were surprised to see him walking well & carrying his bundle on his shoulder. The holy prophet told a person to ask him what he did today that was out of ordinary. The man said 'Today I gave a poor beggar some sadaqa and some bread' then our Prophet asks this man to open this bundle of firewood. There…inside the bundle was that snake. They ask our holy prophet “Why didn’t this snake bite him?” Our holy prophet said that the man who gives out sadaqa /charity sincerely would be able to postpone his immediate difficulty because the angels will safeguard this man for 1 day.
i really appreciate your thoughtful replies - Serious, CocoNut, and Google. JazakAllahu Khayran.
The only reason i thought it might have some superstitious links is because i was very surprised to realize there was rather a lot of superstitious stuff there - shrines of different saints, people praying to pirs to intercede on their behalf (Naoozubillah)... stuff that i have always stayed away from because it's contrary to Islamic principles.
When i was told about doing sadqa, i just wanted to make sure that it had nothing to do with any of the above - purely Islamic.
Thank you again! i really appreciate your help. JazakAllahu Khayran.

Not sure if there is a verse like this. And Allah knows best. However, there is a verse that instructed the Muslims to give something in charity before they consulted the Prophet (s):
"O ye who believe! When ye consult the Messenger in private, spend something in charity before your private consultation. That will be best for you, and most conducive to purity (of conduct). But if ye find not (the wherewithal), Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." (58:12)
