14 verses in the Quran have to be followed up by a sajda-e-tilawat....
imam shafiee also prefers a 15th verse....
1) Sura 7 - Al A'raf (The Elevated Places) - Ayat 206
2) Sura 13 - Ar Ra'ad (The Thunder) - Ayat 15
3) Sura 16 - An Nahl (The Bee) - Ayat 50
4) Sura 17 - Bani Israil (The Children of Israil) - Ayat 109
5) Sura 19 - Marium (Mary) - Ayat 58
6) Sura 22 - Al Haj (The Pilgrimage) - Ayat 18
7) Sura 25 - Al Furqan (The Criterion) - Ayat 60
8) Sura 27 - An Naml (The Ant) - Ayat 26
9) Sura 32 - As Sajdah (The Adoration) - Ayat 15
10) Sura 38 - Saad (Saad) - Ayat 24
11) Sura 41 - Ha Mim (Ha Mim) - Ayat 38
12) Sura 53 - An Najm (The Star) - Ayat 62
13) Sura 84 - Al Inshiqaq (The Bursting Asunder) - Ayat 21
14) Sura 96 - Al Alaq (The Clot) - Ayat 19
Shafi'ee adds to the list....
15) Sura 22 - Al Haj (The Pilgrimage) - Ayat 77
i think even shiaas agree on the 14 verses....
but according to them 4 r wajib, rest r mustahib....
Quran 84:21-23
What then is the matter with them that they believe not?
And when the Qur'an is read to them they fall not prostrate.
But on the contrary the Unbelievers reject (it).
sajda-e-tilawat is simply to make sajda by saying Allah-u-Akbar, going into sajda, facing the qibla ofcourse, and reciting three times 'subhaana rabbi al-aala'....
there is no need to stand or even raise the hands, as one would do when commencing salat....
other tasbeehat for sajda-e-tilawat r found in ahadith....

If I am reciting Surah Sajda, so AFTER reciting I should
do sadja. Or when I read 15th ayat, I should do Sajda.
take care
^ I have seen people do it either way. Some offer the sajda right away. Some offer it after they have finished the sura or the sipara or even the whole quran (do all 14 at one time). I think its preferable to do it right away, so you don't forget later on.

Shakir has translated it with a slight difference:
[84:21] And when the Quran is recited to them they do not make obeisance?
The verses themself have clues which might help us understand the meanings. The "fall not prostrate" is followed by the "Unbelievers reject it" pointing to the fact that the "fall not prostrate" need not necessarily be a physical act; as the unbelievers go against that command by simply "rejecting it".
Noteworthy that the unbelievers do not reject "the falling prostrate" but The Qur'an or what's recited of it.
To me it's clear the "falling prostrate" is not a physical action but more akin to obeying or accepting or submitting to God's verses.
Moreover "fall not prostrate" is incorrect. as the arabic only says "la yasjidoon" or do not prostrate or as Shakir translates the meaning.. "do not make obeisance"
Trust the "religious scholars" to make a ritual out of everything.

mustahib refers to something extra, leaving of which does not lead to sin but doing it guarantees reward!

i am not concerned with how shakir translated it....
and obeisance still can be meant a physical movement not just a thought....
the word here is "yasjudoon" which means a physical act....
and u do not do a sajda by standing up, u have to go down....
so i see no point in refuting "falling in prostrate" because u have to fall....
its just like u say "ijlis" shud not be translated as "sit down" because "down" is never mentioned in the phrase, but anyone with common sense can throw such a silly remark out of the window, and be least amazed at yet another 'act if disbelief' in the prophet's commands....

are u looking to understand the verse or just twist it to mean what you have decided it should mean?
yasjudoon does not necessarily mean a physical movement..
[Shakir 55:6] And the herbs and the trees do prostrate (to Him).
I haven't seen any herb nor tree in 'prostration' as in a physical movement.. have you?? We have to understand then there is a non-literal meaning to it too.
Also note again the logical argument of the verses.. the disbelivers reject the Qur'an which we're told is contrary to yusjudoon
P.S. rehman1.. don't flatter yourself.. this is way over your head..stick to your copy pastes.. shabaash.
^
i am not twisting it....
just trying to show u there can be another meaning other than what u r bent on....
u cant compare the 'sajda' of trees and 'stars' to men's sajda....
ofcourse they wont be the same, cuz they (the stars and trees) dont have a body similar to men....
so their sajda wud not be the same as ours....
now let us compare the act of sajda and rejection of it....
we saw in the verses i quoted before as who reject the sajda....
here u find those who do not reject the sajda....
Quran 7:206
*Lo! those who are with thy Lord are not too proud to do Him service, but they praise Him and prostrate before Him. *
and here for a better understanding....
the shadows fall in sajda????
how????
do the shadows just adore the Lord and do sajda in thoughts????
or do they have their own manner of sajda unknown to us????
Quran 13:15
*And unto Allah falleth prostrate whosoever is in the heavens and the earth, willingly or unwillingly, as do their shadows in the morning and the evening hours. *
ok, let Quran answer how the shadows perform sajda....
Quran 16:48
*Have they not observed all things that Allah hath created, how their shadows incline to the right and to the left, making prostration unto Allah, and they are lowly? *
and then read on....
Quran 16:49
*And unto Allah maketh prostration whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth of living creatures, and the angels (also) and they are not proud. *
and what do u do if u just adore the Lord (i.e. the sajda in thoughts)????
Quran tells u what to do....
Quran 17:107
*Say: Believe therein or believe not, lo! those who were given knowledge before it, when it is read unto them, fall down prostrate falling on their faces *
so dont just keep thinking and keep urself free of actions....
join the ranks of the high....
Quran 32:15
*Only those believe in Our revelations who, when they are reminded of them, fall down prostrate and hymn the praise of their Lord, and they are not scornful, *
as i said when used in conjunction with "kharru" we can arrive at a physical act.. as in Yusuf's brothers when he revealed his identity etc.
But you are making my point by providing examples of things in heaven and on earth doing prostrations.. these are not living things and hence stars and planets do not prostrate physically.. shadows are not living nor are the trees.. we know that shadows are cast by the movement of the earth relative to the sun and not the movement of the trees themself.. so we cannot attribute a 'prostration' to them.
The simplest meaning is obeying or submitting to Allah's will.. why force a physical meaning out of it??
and u haven't yet tackled the logical sequence of the verse.. how is 'rejecting Allah's verses' equal to 'not doing a physical movement'?

the simplest thing for that is that the verse does not tell u what is being rejected....
and the latest thing mentioned before rejection is the sajda....
