I agree too but for a different reason, by 'death' he is out of his misery and pain, by living a life of criminal in prison he would have suffered much more. Anyway, as someone pointed out, somewhere someone needed brownie points hence he got executed amidst his 2nd trial.
Aljazeerah just showed a mobile phone video taken moments before he was hanged, someone taunting him about the death of Sadr's father and he replied back angrily. Defiant to the end. That was literally seonds before he was killed, you can hear the nooseman reciting the Quran.
**Judge Munir Haddad was present at Saddam Hussein’s hanging on 30 December 2006. In an interview with the BBC’s John Simpson, he explains what he witnessed. **
Judge Haddad: One of the guards present asked Saddam Hussein whether he was afraid of dying.
Saddam’s reply was that “I spent my whole life fighting the infidels and the intruders”, and another guard asked him: “Why did you destroy Iraq and destroy us? You starved us and you allowed the Americans to occupy us.”
His reply was, “I destroyed the invaders and the Persians and I destroyed the enemies of Iraq… and I turned Iraq from poverty into wealth.” BBC: There was no question Saddam was drugged? Judge Haddad: Not at all. Saddam was normal and in full control. He was aware of his fate and knew he was about to face death. He said: “This is my end… this is the end of my life. But I started my life as a fighter and as a political militant - so death does not frighten me.” BBC: What happened next? Judge Haddad: They untied his hands and tied them again behind his back.
They put his feet into shackles and he was taken upstairs to the gallows.
He was reciting, as it was his custom, “God is Great!” and also some political slogans like: “Down with the Americans!” and “Down with the Invaders!”
He said: “We’re going to Heaven and our enemies will rot in Hell!”
And he also called for forgiveness and love amongst Iraqis, but also stressed that the Iraqis should fight the Americans and the Persians.
**BBC: **And then? Judge Haddad: When he was taken to gallows, the guards tried to put a hood on his head but he refused.
Then he recited verses from the Koran. Some of the guards started to taunt him - by shouting Islamic words. A cleric who was present asked Saddam to recite some spiritual words. Saddam did so but with sarcasm.
These were his last words.
And then the cord tightened around his neck and he dropped to his death. BBC: But did he say anything else? Judge Haddad: He said, “There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is God’s messenger.” BBC: And was he killed instantly?
**Judge Haddad:**He was killed instantly and I witnessed the impact of the rope and it was a horrible sight. BBC: Are you happy that Saddam Hussein is dead? Judge Haddad: Do I look happy to you? I am a judge and I just carry out my duty.
I was entrusted to oversee the execution of Saddam Hussein and that’s what I did.
I am neither happy nor sad. Yes I do have feelings as an Iraqi citizen, but I carried out my duty the best I could and I gave Saddam Hussein his rights. I wasn’t there to seek revenge.
is that clip online somewhere? I just saw the short clip by geo, moments before he wsa hung (which they didnt show), and he looked very defiant and faced it like a brave man.
^ man that was just so gruesome and chilling… could barely watch the whole thing…had to turn down the sound esp. during his last moments…one moment he was reciting the Quranic verses and the next moment he was gone, merely a dead object…very very sad video to say the least

These are sad events and demonstrate the desire for vengeance among eye-rackies -- a condemned man was taunted seconds before his death -- and the taunters are part of the new 'government'.
I am afraid there is no reconciliation left among eye-rackies and their thirst for revenge will doom their nation.
Also, isn't this the day of 'sunni' eid in eye-rack? Saddam is executed on the sunni eid day and the following day's shia eid is the day of celeration? Intentional by the new eye-racky 'government'?
the 9th day of Dhul-Hijjah before Eid ul-Adha is supposed to be when God pardons the most people from Hell... not just any people but people that had actually deserved Hell.
other people's deaths are meant to get you to reflect upon your own impending death. it's useless to bicker about what's going to happen to someone else. even if you think you know, you probably don't.
even a discussion on Saddam Hussein of all people yields nothing definitive after the fact. what were the odds he'd get executed on that day out of the entire year?

I didnt catch the taunting part or his reply to the but did hear someone from the crowd saying “ala jahannum” a few times. And then Saddam was reciting Shahadah just before the bottom fell out on him.
The man should have been given a life sentance, not this... This is just a display of the sheer barbarity. For all his faults and crimes, the man could have been given a less barbaric death...
Whats even more sickening is the way people have celebrated his death... Its one thing to find comfort in justice being met, but its quite another to celebrate someones death.
Its sick. Mocking someone at death just shows the barbarity of these jahil arabs. Even worse is these are supposed to be the powermen behind the new Iraq. If lowlife people like this, no better than Saddam, hold the future of Iraq then I don't have much hope for it. The whole timing, especially with other trials going on shows a vendetta-based agenda behind it. He should have been made to suffer life imprisonment in solitary confinement.
But you gotta give it to him, despite the taunts and death staring at him, he kept his composure, and died reciting the Shahada on the day of Sacrifice while muslims are performing Hajj. Who could have betted on this given his history? And I wonder if Bush and Blair could keep their composure at death. Chances are they would soil their pants and be screaming like little girls.
Bush wanted to give the Muslim world a message that even on your most auspicious day I can spoil your festivities because I AM THE MOST POWERFUL. The other reasons for not continuing with the the trials was that in April Saddam would have turned 70 and under the Iraqi constitution anyone over 70 cannot be hanged.
So what has Iraq achieved since 2003. In Saddam's era they used to have kangroo courts where the decision was made before the case started and brutal punishment was meted out. After the "liberation" the only thing that changed was that the decision came from Washington and the rest was the same. So how is this regime any better than Saddam's. In one respect that liberators and the puppet regime has out done Saddam, that more Innocent people in Iraq have died under them than they ever did under Saddam. How pathetic.
and he looked very defiant and faced it like a brave man.

If he was so brave he should have used the gun he had when the americans found him in his hole instead of surrendering meekly. It was quite rich of him to later on encourage other iraqis to fight the americans till death!

You must be really young or incredinly naive. If you get a chance to study the executions of serial killers rapists etc in the US saudia arabia iran or any other country....you'll see they usually go without 'screaming like little girls'. Leave it to us muslims to get impressed by bull**** like this and let a mans 'composure' wash away years of brutality and massacres.

But one thing is different. When saddam was killing you and your kind didnt make a whimper. But now that its the goras doing the killing, even an animal like saddam's death causes outrage. The simple fact of the matter is (and I'm in no way condoning bush and his cronies), we Muslims just dont give a ^%&$ when we ourselves are brutalising people but jump and pounce on the US any chance we get. Why wasnt there even a fraction of this outrage when saddam way laid the kurds and massacred hundreds of thousands of shias...not a single protest in th arab cities. But saddam's death....whoa.....that saddens us. The same day saddam was killed 30 iraqis were blasted in Kufa.....why isnt there condemnation, fatwas and protests targeted at the MUSLIMS bombing eachother in Iraq as we condemn the US atrocities. 'How pathetic'.
I share your sentiments. The man was no angel but mocking him seconds before he's about to be executed and then dancing over his dead body in celebration is pure jahaalat and a very sickening act. It should have been a solemn affair and graphic details of his dying moments should have perhaps not been posted on the net in the first place. Even CNN had the decency to stop the video at the precise moment Saddam drops through a trap door beneath his feet
