Is it necessary fo parents to sacrifice or give up or postpone some of their personal pleasures/desires/time etc. toward the effort of raising their children?
What is the right propotion? What are some examples?

^ I don't think you need to give up on your desires all together but postponing them is definately something I have done
For the first 2 years each of of my girl's life - I put them first before everything. My career, my studies, my health, my home, my desire to travel, my sleep. They came first.
Now that they are more self sufficient - I make a little bit time for myself.
- If not reading ALL best sellers. I try to read ONE (yes only one a year)
- If not starting my own business, I try to advance in my career by taking baby steps
- If not traveling around the world, I try to go to one new city a year
- If not being part of a swim team, I do go to the gym and get into the pool to swim laps on my own
I think I will get to my dreams eventually but right now it's time to focus on building their dreams.
