I feel as far as one-dayers are concerned there is no way now that Ponting can overtake Sachin's aggregate of runs and centuries even if he (Ponting) carries on playing for another 3 or 4 years (besides Aussie selectors are known to be more ruthless than others!) and Tendulkar retires from this format after the 2011 World Cup.
As far as test cricket goes Sachin needs to keep playing tests for another 2-3 years in order to stay ahead of Ponting which I am pretty sure he will :D
Very interesting thread ..... my wishes are with Sachine and want him to play till the retirement of Ponting ..... First Sachine has to break the record of Waugh of most test matches .....
India and Australia has more cricket then any other playing county so the battle will be between these two counties ........
