It was Sachin’s mentor Gavaskar who had predicted a decade ago that Tendulkar w’d become the first batsman to score 50+ hundreds in both formats and he is almost there now. With a bit of luck Tendulkar might even achieve that before the next cricket world cup.
Tendulkar (47 Test and 45 ODI hundreds = 92) is slowly but surely inching his way towards the magical figure of 100 international hundreds, a terrific record and one which I dare say will probably never be broken despite so much cricket being played these days.
However I still regard Viv Richards as the greatest batsman of my time. He is matchless. No one (and I mean no one) can bat like Viv. And if you do not believe me just watch the following clips. That being said Tendulkar will always be in my list of top 5 batsmen
I feel as far as one-dayers are concerned there is no way now that Ponting can overtake Sachin’s aggregate of runs and centuries even if he (Ponting) carries on playing for another 3 or 4 years (besides Aussie selectors are known to be more ruthless than others!) and Tendulkar retires from this format after the 2011 World Cup.
As far as test cricket goes Sachin needs to keep playing tests for another 2-3 years in order to stay ahead of Ponting which I am pretty sure he will

Very interesting thread ..... my wishes are with Sachine and want him to play till the retirement of Ponting ..... First Sachine has to break the record of Waugh of most test matches .....
India and Australia has more cricket then any other playing county so the battle will be between these two counties ........
Re: Sachin Tendulkar approaching 100 international hundreds
Thanks for the links Asif. The 3 6s were all insane! I love the upper cut for 6. Is Sehwag the only other player who plays that shot regularly and gets away with it? Can you think of any other current player? I think Dilshan tried doing it a few times.. he got a couple of 4s.. but he also got caught out there.. don't remember a 6.
Besides the knocks you have posted.. his recent 200 was truly amazing.. came against possibly the best current bowling line up SA.. so was the 175 vs AUS last year.. its amazing how he has stepped up his game in the last 2 yrs.. unbelievable.. at the age of 35.. when he had already accomplished so much and was a great... he stepped it up even more..
If he wasnt out for 98 in the last test he wouldve reached 50 test 100s by now! Eitherway it's not far away. I am sure it will happen vs NZ later this year.
Re: Sachin Tendulkar approaching 100 international hundreds
I think Tendulkar looked in most control of the 1st 6. The 6 he hit against Shoaib had more to do with the latter's pace. He just helped a slightly wayward quick delivery on it's way
Re: Sachin Tendulkar approaching 100 international hundreds
Asif.. the upper cut 6 that sachin and sehwag play always relies a lot on the pace of the bowler.. but its still a pretty controlled shot.. i know it doesnt look totally controlled but the way these guys play it over and over again with high success its pretty great.
Did you see Sehwag's upper cut 6 off Johnson yesterday? The reactions on Aussie fielders were hilarious. Katich cudnt believe what he saw. Watson had a huge grin on his face.
Re: Sachin Tendulkar approaching 100 international hundreds
Yes Sachin is in the form of his life. 1194 runs* in 9 tests @ 99.50 in 2010. And if he bats like this there is every chance he would break Yousuf’s record aggregate of 1788 later this year. I guess he does not feel that he has to prove a point to anyone any more (he was struggling for form 5 years ago) so he can just go out and relax now and do what he does best
True. btw Tendulkar has been dismissed 8 times in the nineties
Re: Sachin Tendulkar approaching 100 international hundreds
Its hard to criticize a player who has scored so many centuries and is about to score another double.
But one thing (if there is any one thing) that Tendulkar will most likely regret when he retires is that he rarely delivered in a do-or-die situation. He has the habit of not firing when India desperately needs him to. Sure there are a few exceptions (like the 2003 WC game against Pak), but they are very few and far in between.
I have never forgiven him for throwing his wicket away when India were sniffing victory in that famous Chennai test against Pakistan (and India ended up losing by 10-12 runs). In the last test also, it was left to an injured Laxman to carry India home.
Re: Sachin Tendulkar approaching 100 international hundreds
If anything that goes in Tendulkar's favour is that he has kept himself fit for a long period and is always hungry for runs (records). His attitude and passions towards the game makes him what he is today. He is not the best batsman in my book.
Hypothetically speaking, if Yuvraj was Tendulkar (attitude, fitness & passion), he would have scored more runs and won more games for India.

how about talent? are you saying yuvraj has the same talent that SRT does? no way !
SRT's fitness attitude and passion definitely boosts his performance but he is also highly talented
