sabz chai

Can someone explain me how to make sabz chai? How much time does it take?

Re: sabz chai

sabz chai as in green tea, right? its very quick to make, there are a variety of flavours availabe here for green tea, the traditional chinese one is best. You have to be accurate with the quantity of water in the sauepan (eg. boil 2 cups for 2 cups of tea) as soon as the water boils get it off the stove and add only a pinch of loose tea for 2 cups, more will make it strong/bitter, add an illaichi, cover and dum for a minute. The reason u don't want to add tea to boiling water is that green tea leaves are very delicate and it gets very bitter if boiled water is added immediately. Now it also depends on what quality tea ur using, with the good ones, u get maximum flavour with just a pinch and some cheaper varieties will need more. hope it helps!

wondergurl, I meant chai, subz(pink) chai....
thanks anyways
anyone else?

do you mean the green (light green one)/?

I think u r asking recipe of kashmiri chai i.e pink tea, not sabzz chai (green tea).

yes ,,must be the green one. as i dont think there is any pink tea

Kashmiri Chai/ Sabzz Chai

6 tsp. green tea leaves
15-20 seeds of green cardamom plus 1\2 tsp ground cardamom
1\2 tsp. bicarbonate of soda
1\2 ltr. Full cream milk
Fresh cream (malai)
6 tsp. ground pistachio
6 cups water
salt to taste

  1. Pour water in a heavy based large pan. Add tea leaves, salt, seeds of green cardamom and bicarbonate of soda.
  2. Bring to boil reduce heat and simmer briskly for 45 minutes or until it reduces to 1\3 its quantity.
  3. While it is still boiling pour in it about 2-3 cups of cold water or enough water to make four cups in all. Bring to boil and simmer for 4-5 minutes. Remove from heat, strain and keep aside.
  4. Boil the milk with ground cardamom over low heat. Pour prepared tea water (Qahwa) in the milk. Bring to boil, add salt and simmer for 3-5 minutes over low heat. 5.Remove from heat and pour into 6 cups. Pour 1 tablespoon of cream or malai. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of pistachio over it. Flavor of the tea depends on the quality of the green tea leaves.

your not meant to put milk in it.

its cup of water .heat it ..add pinch of salt, sugar ts.... green tea leaves...1 or 2 cardamom
let it boil .an ready

I think she is not asking about qahwa, she is asking recipe of kashmiri tea which is pink in color.

oh ok,:)

ohh ok :hehe: u got the name wrong, sabz is green thus green tea/qahwa…the pink u mentioned is probably kashmiri chai, uss ki ‘patti’ totally different hoti hai from both dark tea and green tea.

subz green hota hai aur pink gulaabi hota hai :daaghu1:

There are way tooooo many threads on kashmiri chai on GS! And i havent heard anyone yet to try any recipe and come back and tell us if htey ever were successfull. Well, for you guys' sake, i decided to be the bakra and come under the churri...eerrr make chai using the following recipe (which i think is a copy from fauzia's website. Well, it was easy and FANTASTIC! I halved the recipe for both hubs and me and still and had lots leftover. I am not sure if i didnt reduce the qahwa enough but i felt like it should be more milky so maybe next time i will simmer the qahwa more and use more milk. But hubs said it was perfect. It was certainly pink in color and all and who ever told me a long time ago that you have to whip or phaint a lot to get the pink color lied! I think the baking soda does that trick.

Oh and i certainly did not let it cook for 45 mins in the second step, i just cranked up the heat :D

Re: sabz chai

Thank you everyone

oops, i made a mistake

Nope… Sabaz might be green, but Sabaz Chai is NOT green tea. Sabaz Chai is that pink tea, also known as Kashmir Tea. Green Tea is more popularly known as kahwva in Pakistan.
