I remember first seeing the Sabri brothers live in 1990. Our college Pak society had invited them to a function. The then Pakistani High Commissioner to UK, Shahryar Khan (ex-foreign secretary who later went on to become PCB chairman as well) was the chief guest. He introduced Sabri brothers to the audience (comprising 50% desi and 50% gora students) and explained what qawwali is. The Sabris left everyone in a trance with their awe-inspiring performance. The goras (even though they did not understand a word of what they were singing!) and our good old Shahryar were all swaying from side to side with the beat of qawwali

Ghulam Farid Sabri’s brother has an even better voice. Watch/Listen at 13:24 - such a rich and soulful voice … wah wah, maza aa gaya! He could have been a great ghazal singer if he wanted to
