Re: 'Sabr' is the last stage after you have done your job!
Surah e Asr is said to be most comprehensive surah of Quran.
So sabr is mentioned in last after recommendation of Haq.
Does that mean Islam requires that there should not be any compromise when it comes to 'Haq'. It appears that in various periods of Islamic history, people kept silent on many major issues (which affected ummah afterwards) and they probably perceived that they were doing sabr.
Any thoughts?
Yes, there is a sequence of things listed in the last verse. However, the sequence does not define the order of priority of the things. It defines the interdependence and the relationship of one to the other. For example, the first thing mentioned is believe/faith, and last thing mentioned is 'Sabr' (patience, perseverance, consistence, contentment). Both these things are about acquiring a correct conceptual understanding of the world and oneself and one's relationship to God. Both those things are centered on the self, the individual, the nafs. Patience of a believer is part of belief/imaan. So the first and last are actually one.
Everything in between encompasses the individuals social life and the community's social and economic activities. All these activities must be rooted and begin with the correct conceptual understandings first! It is not possible for human beings to believe and behave in specific ways isolated from external influences. The external influences generated by others also create an environment that creates a ripple effect through the society/community/nation/individual. All activities of human beings are connected to others. The significance of relationships, behavior in relationships, desire for material things, economic gain, desires for social standing, desire for approval and appreciation, etc are all related to individuals other than ourselves. The only way to maintain and create a believer's correct belief is to create a system in the household, in the community and reinforce each other through the educational institutions, religious institutions, judicial institutions, welfare institutions, business ethics, trade policies ,etc.
Because these are complex systems, and life is unpredictable, constant development, constant improvement, constant ijtihaad, consultation, reflection, review, audit, are necessary. This effort requires persistence, dedication, constancy, in the righteous way rooted in the spirit of Islam instead of complacency which leads to corruption.
That is my understanding of Al-Asr. May Allah correct my understanding, and forgive if I have misinterpreted and misguided.
