saada-kaar?

Read in Urdu novel ‘wo paihe ke aitbaar se saada-kaar the’.

What could be that profession? :hmmm:

Re: saada-kaar?

sada kaar = town crier / DhinDhoriya / DhinDhorchii

Re: saada-kaar?

swad se sada nahin. seen se saada (simple)

Re: saada-kaar?

**saadah-kaar = intricate jewelry maker

nihaayat naqsheen zevraat banaane waalaa sonaar
**

Re: saada-kaar?

you mean sunnar?

Re: saada-kaar?

sunnar? yaaraa, asl lafz to SONAAR hai...yes, jeweler! sonaa se sonaar :)

Re: saada-kaar?

I thought Saada kaar

In punjabi it means Mera ghar haha

Re: saada-kaar?

lolz..."meraa ghar" kia koii peshaa hai? :p

Re: saada-kaar?

haan wohi.. but wasn't sonaar common than saada-kaar? I mean we been hearing word sonaar / johri for jeweler and at first instance I couldn't recognise the profession till the writer later gave some descriptions of the business.

Re: saada-kaar?

Why they pronounce 'gh' as 'k'? Is this pronunciation common among all Punjabis or specific to some regions.

Re: saada-kaar?

sonaar more widely used but it's a Hindi word while saadah kaar is a persianized Urdu word. someone who wants to writie in pure/Khaalish Urdu then he/she will tempt to use this word.

Re: saada-kaar?

I just read the title and then when I read the OP
I had to share it

Its our accent in Punjabi its kaar and in Urdu its more sophisticated GHAR
