I have started hating SA team now. First they pull out of Champions Trophy and now Mr Smith wants to rest and don’t wanna play if its arranged tri series. My question is if he really needed rest, what would have happened if Champion Trophey was to be happening in other country. He would have been playing then next month.
This is what he has to say…Would he be saying the same if it was Australian offer to play? Let’s see if Aussies will follow the same route, if they do then I am strongly in favour of strong asian block too…POOR Pakistan…
Graeme Smith has not reacted positively to news that South Africa could be asked to participate in a tri-nations event involving Pakistan and India next month.
Pakistan officials are attempting to give their players some much-needed international action following the postponement of the ICC Champions Trophy.
South Africa were due to have around six weeks to recuperate from a long summer in England before hosting a Bangladesh tour in November, but have been asked to host some one-day internationals.
But Smith is pulling for his board to withdraw from negotiations with injury problems starting to mount up amongst his squad.
Smith needs to rest a long-standing bout of tennis elbow, both Albie Morkel and Morne Morkel have injury niggles while Makhaya Ntini, Mark Boucher and Jacques Kallis have all been playing virtually non-stop for two years.
“We haven’t had any confirmation but I don’t think it would be in the best interests of the team,” he said. "If we are looking in terms of our season we need to get injuries right.
“If we did have to play that series we would have to dig into the depths of South African cricket to give other guys opportunities because the injuries are an issue at the moment.”
The Pakistan Cricket Board has also been in talks with India and Australia about the possibility of hosting the event.
Well, I mean, Ponting is also out of the squad and taking rest for Bangladesh series, and Smith is just another case alongwith Ponting taking a break for recuperation and whatnot.
Is Pakistan ever going to play some serious cricket for a break and get back on track? Speaking of cricket this year, lowly Bangladesh and series with Zimbabwe, several new players were given chances, Sarfaraz Ahmed was a part of the squad and looked like securing a permanent place until two months later, Akmal was recalled and no word about giving chances to new blood.
I don't think SA should be forced/emotionally blackmailed (haha emotionally blackmailed wth) into playing a series when they don't want to. If Pakistan hasn't good cricket in the last year it's not SA's fault. SA has been playing nonstop and now that theres no Champions Trophy of course they wanna take a damn break and get their players out of injury.
South Africa’s problems continued with news that skipper Graeme Smith will miss the third one-day international on Friday with a tennis elbow problem.
Smith has battled through the condition for much of the summer but will not be risked at The Oval, despite his side needing a win to keep the series alive. The 27-year-old is certain to miss the rest of the series and is consulting doctors to see if surgery is required.

Either Shafqat Nagmi is class A joke-act or an ‘implant’ to erode pak cricket to dust (which it is now) either way he’s a piece of crap. A shame for Pakistan and its cricket.

The op mentioned Smith in his first line saying he wants to rest only for tri series and the post you quoted said that he has tennis elbow, and he is now probably out of the ODI series againt England. I think that explains why he wanted a rest...pretty relevant if you ask me.
