We new this was coming… Sad that the idiot parents of this kid were to stubborn to allow their child vaccination. Now this kid, if he survives, will suffer the rest of his life.
Thank you Taliban…
Polio case detected
PESHAWAR, Dec 12: Another polio case has been detected in South Waziristan.
A three-month-old boy was found three days ago to be a polio victim. He is from Mohallah Wadan of Sarokai tehsil.
Dr Waheed Khan, Deputy Director of the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI), said the child had not received oral polio vaccine because of refusal by parents of the entire area.No vaccination had taken place in the area since August, a World Health Organisation official said. The area was under the influence of Taliban, the official said.
He said Pakistan had recorded 21 cases of the disease during the current year but it was feared that polio virus existed in several districts of the NWFP and tribal agencies. “There is a high risk of polio transmission in December,” he said.
Re: S Waziristan boy spared of sterility, but not of Polio...
Yep, this is the result of silly paranoid fantasies of people who should really be in a psychiatric ward, rather than being allowed to go on with their delusional "jihad" to "protect muslims around the world".

This has to be blamed to on lack of information/education of the people, not necessarily on Taliban. People (largely Muslims) also refused to such vaccinations, I think this is also believed in African countries.

In those African countries too, it's the local maulvis who tell them not to accept the vaccinations.
Not to say that all ulema are to blame. In Pakistan, for instance, the MMA vocally supports the polio vaccination drive. However, the MMA has no influence in the Taliban controlled parts of Pakistan.
At any rate, if this Polio spreads, it at least means the children of the area will not be able to contribute to Taliban activity once they grow up. Will make the next generation easier to control.

Yaar, the mullahs are completely paranoid... They think its a conspiracy on the part of the west to destroy the Muslim population...
So this isnt so much an argument over the merits of the vaccine itself, but over the perception of the West... No amount of convincing is going to change the minds of people in regards to their bias towards the west...

Not quite the sensitive way of looking at things, but true in an ironically sad and morbid way...

^ on what basis are they rejecting vaccination?
It's been well publicised for a while now that the rural ulema in the FATA have been saying that the polio vaccination is in fact a western-derived plot to trick Muslims into receiving medicine that sterilises them.
I stress that it's rural ulema, not all ulema. The urban ulema such as the MMA leadership has always publically backed the vaccination drive.
