S&T Essay writing competition 2009

Lets celebrate 23rd of March 2009 on Gupshup in a different way. The aim is simple, to promote scientific work done in Pakistan and encourage GS members to take part in any activity related to science and technology. I am pleased to announce an essay competition iin S&T section, which is 1st time in GS’s history.

Please submit your OWN work. The essay should be about “Scientific development in Pakistan since 1947”.

Enteries are welcomed from every member even if he/she doesn’t post in S&N often. last date of submission is 20th of March and winner will be announced on 23rd of March. A panel of judges will decide the winner.

  1. Here are some simple rules to follow.
  2. It has to be your own work.
  3. There is no limit for essay length.
  4. Keep it simple (Not something like a research paper, because the aim is to increase interest in science & technology)

Now the interesting part, there is also a cash reward/amazon vouchers for the winner, which will be delivered to the winner in most secure way i.e without compromising his/her personal details.

NOTE: cash reward is NOT sponsered by GS administration.

Sounds exciting. Wouldn't it be easier if we had a certain number of words limit?

hmmm nah, it might put off members thinking "oh, that many words essay". We will judge essays on QUALITY of content, not number of words. A long essay is not necessarily a good essay.

Not to sound like a school kid but then what if one person writes a 300 word essay & another person writes a 500 word essay & both are equally good. Then the person with more words wins since he was able to produce quality AND quantity?
