MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian President Vladimir Putin accused the United States of trying to undermine Russia to further its global dominance and said Washington had ignored Moscow’s attempts to build a friendship.
In an interview with Time magazine, which named the Russian president its “Person of the Year” for 2007 on Wednesday, Putin said Washington had adopted its strategy of belittling Russia to try to influence the country’s domestic and foreign policy.
“Russia hasn’t only said but also repeatedly demonstrated by its entire policy in the last 15 years that we do not only want to be America’s partner, but a friend as well,” he said.
“But sometimes I have the impression that America does not need friends. We have the impression that America needs vassals to command.”

Extremists are the #1 threat. Islamists can try and build their world wide ummah without resorting to terrorism. When they do, they become extremists or terrorists. A peaceful Islamist is not a threat to anyone.
It seems as if you are the one who can't distinguish between Islamists, fundamentalists, extremists and terrorists.
I don't think it is possible unless america stops interfering in that region for the worse. The reason given to muslims to accept it is of latin america [actually on other forums] whose populace and leaders were too weak to effectively challenge the Monroe Doctrine in the last three centuries. Ancestors? We are talking about recent history with US, it's not too late for it to turn around. I have great hope it will. Americans need to grab their country back from the elite and 2 parties rule. US foreign policy in the past 50 years has slid into the horrors that communists and others here claim that it has. Particularly of late. But it's not too late for it to change for the better.

America is a two party system and I don't really how hillary could really turn everything around since she basically is bush [supported iraq war etc] even if she is sending bill on a charm mission around Europe after winning the next election.

You make it sound as if an empire is a bad thing. The Islamic empire lasted for hundreds of years and the powerful military was the main ingredient in their success and longevity. Are we just be selective in which empires we find to being distasteful?
The Soviet empire (for which some here are showing love) didn't last for nearly as long but their military-industrial complex was all they had.

Islamic Empire lasted because it had the message of inclusion for whatever subjects in conquered. Muslims didn't massacre every spaniard or christians in middle east that they could find when they conquered those lands.

Sure, it's an empire, I never said it wasn't. But it's based on economy, money and influence - not on territory gained through military conquests. The difference is that the US gives power to those they conquer and doesn't absorb them into their empire.
And btw, the US doesn't massacre every Muslim they find either. If so, there wouldn't be any left. I dare say they take care to avoid non-combatant deaths more than any power in history.

Many powers in past would have avoided non-combatant deaths as well. So what you said above is nothing to be proud of.
Main thing is that American Monkeys behave as mad barbarians when they attack other countries for no reason. And these attacks cause "non-combatant deaths" in those countries in the long run. Just look at how many thousands of Iraqis have died until now only due to a war started by mad monkeys in Washington and Tel Aviv.

Russians can never be trusted. As their economy in now improving and getting some money together, they start threatening.
Thank god we have USA that is capable of standing up to the Russians. If it had not been for the USA, Afghans and Pakistanis would have been under Russian control. People should always be grateful to the USA for saving Afghanistan and Pakistan from Russians in the 80's.
