Russia has once more proven its total lack of commitment to democracy by murdering the last man that the Chechan people were ever able to elect in free and fair voting.
May Allah SWT forgive the sins of our brother the martyr (inshallah) Aslan Maskhadov, the freely chosen leader of our brothers and sisters in Chechnya.
May Allah SWT grant our brother the martyr (inshallah) Aslan Mashkadov protection from the Hellfire, admittance into Paradise and a place of honour near Himself.
May Allah SWT bring death and destruction onto Vladimir Putin, onto Putin’s soldiers, and onto every single Russian who voted to put Putin into power for they bear the responsibility for the consequences of that action!!!
The Russian military today said it had killed the Chechen rebel leader, Aslan Maskhadov, one of its most wanted men, in a “special operation”.
The Interfax news agency quoted a spokesman for the Russian forces as saying that Mr Maskhadov had been killed in Tolstoy-Yurt, a village in the northern sector of Chechnya that has been under the tight control of Russian forces. The television channel NTV later showed footage of a corpse claimed to be that of Mr Maskhadov. Another Chechen rebel leader, Akhmed Zakayev, said Mr Maskhadov was probably dead, but that he had no personal confirmation.
Re: Russia murders the last freely elected Chechan president
It’ll have minimal effect on the Chechen war. The military units reporting to Maskhadov were the Chechan regulars, who were crushed quickly in 1999.
It was his deputy (appointed after the war started), Shamil Basayev, who commanded the irregulars who are continuing the defence of Chechnya today.
Maskhadov was more of a figurehead, who through his democratic election granted the Resistance legitimacy as representing the Free government of Chechnya.
I guess that following his martyrdom, Shamil Basayev will now succeed him as overall leader of the Free chechan government.
Re: Russia murders the last freely elected Chechan president
His killing will be seen as another blow to Chechnya rebels, at the very least symbolical blow which is why you may see an influx of militants into Chechnya.
Re: Russia murders the last freely elected Chechan president
Maskhadov was just a man and he can be replaced, the incidents in chechnya show the double standards of the west they stay silent to the masscres of chechen civillains but when killigs happened like in beslan there mouths are wide open for some strange reason!
