Rushk - Sawal

Okay, this band is the one that came out with that objectionable video - discussed in an earlier thread…

Supposedly great stuff - the album is now out - released in June - called Sawal…

Anyone had a chance to hear it yet?

not yet, I only saw the video.

i mix all these new kids on the block...............

there NAQSH....then theres AKS....then theres this RUSHK.....Gawd....and it doesnt end here! We have Mizmaar and Mizraab and now waitin for the third miz-whatever to join the gang!

Anyway coming to this this RUSHK band doesnt hold much following...though their album has been critically acclaimed and all that....frankly speaking its not masala'd up enough to hold interest for anyone.....just sounds toooo bland!!

The KHWAHISH video they made from this album 'sawaal' was too off the mark for the general audience. PCG when u r in Pak do check it out...its just a minute and a half long and way too 'avant garde' shall I say for the average Pakistani audience. They probably made this album to be happy about it themselves, I dont see any track becoming a smash.

Okay, their music is up at musicindiaonline. The funny thing about these guys is that the album was released in India first, although I've got no concrete confirmation on that.

Secondly, they've got the album playing on an Indian website, before any of the pakistani websites have it.

I think Behti Naar was a pretty daring video, and I'm honestly questioning whether they should have depicted a secrecy problem between two homosexual males...the angle they took, from my interpretation was that homosexuality is not natural...or well, it wasn't working for one of the guys (he has a secret crush on a woman) which he was concealing from his male lover...

I mean, its quite the opposite scene in western entertainment, where a seemingly str8 guy is hiding his homosexuality.

As for whether they are good or not...I've listened to the whole album and I say they're good. Their music is different...its not wannabe Junoon, and its not street bhangra and its not lovey dovey pop... some describe it as the Pakistani version of Massive Attack...but I dont see that. They sound more like what you would hear in a keyed-down club...somewhat jazzy, somewhat electronic, and highly original.

I dont expect them to hit it big with the masses...but I do expect it to be one of those highly acclaimed artistic endeavors...kinda like Dusk's music...its not out there in every store - but those who follow Pak's music scene know about these guys and pay them salute.

Plus, a chic sings most of the songs...what more can you expect from PCG? :D

Couldnt figure what Behti Naar was abt...i mean honestly when the other guy is shown as touchin the other guy most of us thought he was just checkin out his biceps [he has some dumble in his hand??]. And well what was Iraj Manzoor doin with Tariq Amin in that video...all that leather stuff? couldn't figure that out either.

Rushk is nowhere on the mainstream Pak scene. They'll probably remain on the fringes coz they dont wanna compromise their originality which might be a good thing but heck who cares..........i just wanna hear good pleasin music.
