Hot favorites, Australia have an unexpected melt down on the eve of WC. I am sure they are going through the painful memories of '92 when they started out as favorites and crashed out without making it to semis. I am equally sure they will be back with a vengeance once Ponting takes back the helm of captaincy.
If there are two teams that must be feeling pretty good about their chances right now, they are South Africa and New Zealand. They couldn’t have asked for a better run up to WC. South Africa have just become world’s #1 ranked team and New Zealand have helped bring down the Goliaths from their throne.
English team better not blink. They just have a fairy tale shot of achievement on the door steps of the biggest cricketing event, and they must be very pleased.
India should be feeling good with their run up to WC, although all kinds of injury scares are not helping their cause.
Pakistan has probably the worst run-up to WC, amongst the top teams. With injury scares, doping scandals, out of form Inzi, indifferent form of WK and worst of all, a horrid run of defeats in South Africa. Its one thing to lose (every one does), its another to lose like they did - by huge huge margins. Pak team must be feeling like most students feel on the eve of a big exam - hoping that the exams get postponed for another day so they get a little more time to do the final revision ![]()
Sri Lanka must be feeling a li’l down right about now. A fantastic team otherwise, they got beaten in India. Not good. West Indies are in a similar boat, but really I am sure even they know they don’t really stand a chance - home field advantage or not. They are just a very mediocre team.
