Have you ever run a marathon?
Any info on running a marathon would be great since I’ve never run one before but I would be interested in taking part.

I wish I can run a marathon but no i'm far from it. I'm sure few 5Ks dont count. I personally think if you are able to run around 10 miles, you should be good to participate in marathon. Like here I know NYC marathon and Boston marathons are 16 miles each. I think its a great experience.
I'll try to find some link about it for you
Re: Run a Marathon
@Lilly I just read this interesting link for strength training exercises for runners. I’m looking to gather more as we need to do it regularly.

There is no magic formula. You need to put in the miles. Whatever you do, you will hit that wall after 20 miles and your legs will feel like chapathi.
Good luck.

What?
A marathon is a fixed length no matter which city is in. Marathon means 26.2 miles. If it's not 26.2 miles then it's not a marathon.
And if you can run 10 miles that's not enough. I've done the last 2 London marathons and i found it really hard. Ive run 3 times a week for the last few years, done some 10ks and some half marathon races and then moved on to marathons and trained for 3 months specifically for marathon running before each.
Some people find it easy I guess but I found it really hard. If you run at an average speed then don't forget it's about 4hrs running non stop. My times were 4hr 2min and 3hr 44min.
Re: Run a Marathon
If you have never run a marathon before, its a long drawn process. You really need to build up to the length you are going to run.
Run 5k a week for a couple of weeks....move up to 7k for a couple of weeks...add 2 or 3 k every other week..increasing distance as you move along in time, till you reach the desired distance.
Re: Run a Marathon
You can always start with just running.
It doesn't have to be a marathon that you train for.
I've been meaning to start. Perhaps next summer.
I know people who were over-weight and have now run several challenging courses. They followed a well-laid prep plan.
You can find several online.
Re: Run a Marathon
If you want to be healthy and fit you need to start running in your locality for this you don't need any marathon. You just have to start doing daily exercises which will help you to keep you healthy. There are so many welfare organizations in Pakistan working for the welfare of the general public as different marathon held on different occasions.
Re: Run a Marathon
Running and finishing a Marathon had been on my bucket list, since I was a child. Alhamdulillah I have been able to fulfil that dream last year.
I had done some running as a teenager, then there was literally no sports whatsoever for around 15 years and then I started running again. As some people mentioned, the best thing to do is, to have a phased approach. I had a very specific training plan for the 16k portion of a relay marathon I did with some friends. The following year, I had an adapted 16-week training plan for a Half Marathon. And I strictly adhered to it. That was a challenge, I have to admit, but I did.
When I completed the Half Marathon in a time that was better than I had expected, I decided to go for the full distance one year later. My time for the full Marathon was not really good and the last 12 kilometers were absolute torture, but that didn’t matter. I was just absolutely thrilled that I had completed it. It’s an unbelievable high when you actually cross the finish line after training so hard.
This picture was taken by the organizers of the Vienna City Marathon 2016, when I was approaching the finish line. They posted it on their official Facebook page:
