Rumor -- Aamir Sohail resigned ??

Inzamam calls for consistency in selection amid Sohail’s resignation rumours](http://www.jang-group.com/thenews/nov2003-daily/29-11-2003/sports/s1.htm)

Rumors were rife on Friday in Lahore that the chief selector Aamer Sohail had given his resignation to the Board after another blunt reminder from Inzamam-ul-Haq and Javed Miandad that they were not in agreement with the policies of the national selection committee.

Sohail denied he had resigned through a board official but keeping in mind past incidents when the truth has come out later after initial denials from the Board, one has to give some credibility to these rumors.

As it is the indications were there in the afternoon that Sohail would not be happy with their remarks on the selection policies when the Pakistan captain and coach addressed a press conference.

It became obvious from the beginning today that Inzamam was not going to leave the chief selector a happy man with his comments on the selection policy.

Inzamam declared that as far as he was concerned the rebuilding process in the Pakistan team that started after the World Cup was complete and now there had to be more consistency in the selection of the team.

“We need to be more consistent in selecting players. I think we have tried out enough newcomers and the ones who are in the team now need to be given a proper chance and confidence,” he said.

“If they don’t perform, fine, you can replace them and try others. But I think now we have to stop chopping and changing players. That process is over and we now have to also start winning matches and build a nucleus in the Pakistan team for the future,” he added.

And it is clearly no coincidence that the recent differences between the team captain and coach with chief selector have not been limited to the question of authority and say in selection matters but also on Sohail’s insistence on chopping and changing players at will.

Inzamam also conceded that the change in his thinking could have come about because Pakistan was going to play against India in the next few months. “We have some tough series ahead of us and we need to now buckle down and find a dependable combination,” he stated.

Re: Rumor -- Aamir Sohail resigned ??

THANKS GOD!!!!!!!!!

I dont know if any body is going to agree with me on this ....but i really hope its just a rumor...despite all that Amir has caused in last feww months, i still dont want him to quit hours before the start of a series. I dont think its going to have any positive consequences.

all they need is to have a check system over selection committee...like somebody who could over rule amir's selection in regards with certain players like Junaid Zia, Moin Khan, and now saleem Elahi.
Aamir Resiging would not solve the problem...atleast i dont think so.

Miandad should be the chief selector. His record in Pakistani cricket is proven beyond a shadow of doubt. Every time he has applied himself, as a batsman, a captain and a coach he has been successfull. Aamer Sohail is a relative nobody and I don't even know how he became the top selector.

agreed... not at this time.

I hope this is rumour is true. Right time or not...We need Aamir out of the PCB. It will only do good for the Pakistani Cricket Team.

The sooner the better. He is not coach or captain whose leaving the game will kick the morale of team. He is just "Chief" selector, there are many selectors working for him, if he is out than anybody can take over the boots.

Actually his leaving Pakistani cricket will boost my and team's morale for sure. We should make him stick around til India visit. He should resign on the eve of the first test match. This would be a great service to Pakistani cricket. Can you believe the joy and vigor the team will have when they will find out Aamir Sohail is leaving as chief sleector?.

thanx God

He was the most indiciplined player fighting with every body and was kicked out of the team. He is a mental case and will spoil the team. It's good riddance if he has resigned. In any case he has no business doing the commentary in his broken english.

Eid ka Tauhfa

well, i guess it was just a rumor after all.
