Rules of the House

What are some rules in your house that you use with your kids or your parents house that you had to abide by.

Re: Rules of the House

From my parents house:

  1. open door policy. Cannot shut the door or lock it unless you are changing clothes

  2. You had to ask "Can I go somewhere" not tell " I am going somewhere"

  3. Computer usage was only in family room

  4. No phone calls in the bedrooms

Re: Rules of the House

We do not have any set rules, rather we follow few basic principles. I believe that if we teach kids principles rather than having them follow rules, they would understand the concept of wrong or right in a better manner.

Re: Rules of the House

^ okay list your principles then

Re: Rules of the House

Look at you saying 'we' when we know Niksik makes the rules and you follow them :p

When I was a kid, we could close doors though never ever lock them. Computer was in parents' room at first but then as went into our late teens it got to the guest room and then in our room. As for going out.....desi parents and the 100 questions :D

Re: Rules of the House

i'll enforce "no swearing" rule in the house for sure

Re: Rules of the House

No locks on doors, I was allowed though because i was the only girl (6 older bros) and I had an ensuite that my brothers would use and mess up.
Weekly room inspections, (anything left on floor would be collected and put in the loft)
Must pray together as a family (at 1 point there was a 'call to prayer' rota!)
School bag checked everyday (homework had to be done on day it was issued)
Ask permission to go out anywhere.
No music or loud TV after 7pm

Re: Rules of the House

and what did u tthink of these rules and did you follow them. ; )

Re: Rules of the House

we would never lie when asked a question unless the innocent mind of the asker is not ready for the answer. :D

Re: Rules of the House

Well I really abused that fact when I was in my teens, I knew I could be rude to men and they could not do anything to me becuase they would get beat up. But when it came to marriage it was hard, no-one in my community wanted to marry me because they were worried if something happened my brothers would get involved. Sorry don't understand the Urdu part.

Re: Rules of the House

aap apnay principles apnay paas hi rakhien to behtar hai :snooty:

carry on everyone else.

Re: Rules of the House

They sucked big time but as a parent I get them now. I broke all of them at some point but looking back it was pointless.

Re: Rules of the House

My two rules that I am hell bent on making them follow until they move out of my house.

1- No sleep overs what so ever.

2- No exchange of toys (unless it's a gift) or personal belongings with other children.

Re: Rules of the House

Ooo glad u brought this up. Not sure if this is hte same but I have heard way too many stories about kids who were forced to give their toys away to other kids who came over, just b/c htey were screaming for it and being brats…the brats’ parents would have hte audacity to ask the kids parents “de dho” and the parents actually took it from the kids and gave it away!!!

When I was a kid, I remember i gave away my barbie’s arm in exchange for play-dough and oh my god my mom was soooooo angry. My dad explained to me why she reacted that way and why what I did was wrong…so I totally understand that now and I would be really upset if my kids did that :hehe:

Re: Rules of the House

  1. No boys in girls bedroom. Playing allowed only in family room.

  2. No internet without my supervision.

  3. We do not embarass our kids in front of anyone. They don't embarass us in front of anyone.

  4. No sleepovers.

This is what we have so far.

Re: Rules of the House

^ how do parents embarrass their kids?

Re: Rules of the House

By yelling at them or threatening them in front of other folks.

Re: Rules of the House

ahhhh yes.
i remember being embarrassed by other adults…it wasn’t very nice.

Do your kids ever act out in public/at ppls houses? and if so, how do you discipline them? (maybe this should be a new thread)?

Re: Rules of the House

Why the collective hate of sleepovers ma niggaz?
