In both popular and scientific models, addiction is seen as locking you into an inescapable pattern of behavior.
But this fatalistic thinking about addiction doesn’t jibe with the facts. More people overcome addictions than do not.
Kicking these habits constitutes a dramatic change, but the change need not occur in a dramatic way. So when it comes to addiction treatment, the most effective approaches rely on the counterintuitive principle that less is often more. Successful treatment places the responsibility for change squarely on the individual and acknowledges that positive events in other realms may jump-start change.
Here are a few known addictions :
1) Smoking
2) Alcohol
3) Food
***4) Drugs ***
5) Substance abuse e.g painkillers
6) Compulsive Behaviour
The idea behind all addictions is that its something within OUR control that we have LOST control off !
So consequently OVERCOMING the addiciton basically constitutes REGAINING CONTROL !
Share you addictions and what you did to overcome them…i’ve only described well known addictions but i’m sure there are more out that are not that highly recognized.
I would like this thread to be used as a platform to FIGHT ADDICTIONS , where guppies can share how they overcame their personal addictions and advise others on how to .
I am also addicted to something..but I cant mention it here.
Bro, if it is wht i m thinking... then u need to start offering prayers. only that can help u out. and alot of will power. depends on how much control you have lost.

you have to help him conquer his addiction, his health depends on it.
2) Realized that mostly I would have it when upset or angry .
3) Found a person ( not a friend ) just a random person whom u do not know well who also had the same addiction and made a pact with them to stay off coke and see who aves in first . That helped cuz U don’t wanna lose to a stranger
4) Found a substitute and used to drink that whenever i wanted sumthing to drink e.g i always had coke with all my meals , so i switched to grapefruit juice and freshly squeezed orange juice and now i only have water with my meals.
5) The hardest part was resisting it the first 3 times when i got a craving for it. Once U overcome those few minutes of wanting it sooooo bad , U feel so good about yourself that it becomes a conditioned reflex …a feelgood booster !
6) I lost weight just by stopping Coke , so that was an added incentive .
Kabhi kabaar esa hota tha k mujhe bohat dil chahta tha cold drink peenay ko. lekin drink penay se pehle main akser paani pee leta tha. Phir jitna bhi dil chah raha ho. paani peenay k baad maine kabhi nahi pee cold drink. I hope u understand. Jabh dil chahay.. Thanda paani pee lein. I hope it will work. Paani se achi koi peenay ki cheez nahi. koi cheez pyaas nahi bujha sakhti better than water.
