one of my desi friends did something really interesting on her wedding. she had lots of non-desi friends too that she wanted to spend time with. so they did a sort of mix and mingle type party…it was all the younger crowd…his friends, her friends, some cousins, siblings, etc. this way everyone got to meet everyone and were completely comfortable with each other by the time of the wedding.
some people do a couples shower…although it sounds cheesy…i think it’d be cute.
speeches, skits and dances are the usual highlights/entertainment of the evening at desi functions.
