I heard a very wrong conversation on B96 tonight between a man and his girlfriend. The girlfriend called the radio station to get the DJ to defend her over the phone against a boyfriend she had who verbally abused her about her weight…
So the thing that ticked me off so much was hearing him bash her on the radio like that. He was on there all like, “Well, she IS a fat pig. the Holidays are coming up and she’s gonna be eating all the Holiday cookies.” I had gotten so mad because that was supposed to be his woman, you know what I’m sayin, how you (not those who read this but I’m saying) gonna be with somebody and dog they appearance like that??? It’s pointless, I mean I know that we all have our preferances and things but I mean common sense ought to tell a person if it aint that much of an attraction, why show interest in that person at all???
I dont know, what do you all think about this kind of thing? People being in relationships that make fun of their partner???
A relationship cannot exist in the absence of mutual respect.
There can be several reasons why one make would fun of his/her partner: the person might want his/her way out of the relationship and is looking for reasons to justify the decision; or, the person could be conscious about some weakness in him/herself and finds satisfaction by ridiculing some aspect of the other’s personality; or, the person could just be an insensitive soul and has habit of making fun of others for no particular reason.
Whatever the basis, there are always other decent and respectful ways of behaving/responding/reacting in any give circumstance but some choose to act immaturely. For instance, let’s say in the situation u described, the g/f gained wait after she got involved with this guy. If the b/f really had any respect for g/f and was serious about their relationship, then instead of brutally making fun of her figure, he would’ve politely talked to the g/f about the situation and offered to help out and support her in achieving a healthy weight and lifestyle; unless of course if he is looking for reasons to just end the relationship.
In any case, nothing justifies ridiculing others in anyway or form. Respect is the foundation of a successful relationship, without respect there is no relationship; there is just compromise. And unfortunately, even today, there are a lot of individual who choose to comprise and take the emotional abuse. One has to be strong and have some self respect, there is no point in letting others humiliate and degrade you for whatever futile reason.
sheer dilemas true in telling about ppl with different personality, but I'd I say the girl was stupid enough to have think of the DJ defending her. I mean, complaining to radio stations can never be quite a solution. If she was incapable of solving the problem herself, the incident wouldn't've become known throughout and widespread from the radio station, through Natalia, all the way to us. They were rather making fun of themselves, and not their partners...after all, common sense aint common.
PS. the intact incident just reminded me of the Neelam Show in KKHA 'Ana, mujhay call nahi karna...I found someone better' or something like that lolz resolutions of radio stations helps fall apart, not get together. =)

I agree with your frustration. However, even more frustrating is to note that the person being abused is still lingering on and keep getting the (emotional) beating from who we think is downright a jerk. Well, I guess it is because the person who is being abused (this woman in this case) is in love with this man and cannot react. It seems stupid but often emotions take control of our reactions.
