Rude and confrontational sayings

ok so…you have disagreement with someone. I have SUCH a problem with people who say things that further the disagreement instead of being mature adults and working things out. Things like…

Stating a position and ending it by saying “ok bye”
Using the term “WHATever…” or even worse, “whateva” and all similar saying such as “sure, whatever you say” or "yes DEAR’.
Calling a female “Ma’am”

I see my kindergartener using this type of strategy and I END IT. This is not how you resolve issues, its how you further bad relations and keep the arguments going. What a total turnoff when this approach is taken!

Or am I being persnickety?

Re: Rude and confrontational sayings

No, they are irritating, specially coming out of a desi dude's mouth.

Re: Rude and confrontational sayings

This thread is a nice reminder to many of us including myself. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. :)

It irritates me too. But I thought "whatever..." was a very teenage thing to say.

"Persnickety people. Exceptional cheese." (Sargento cheese commercial, lol)

Is it just me..........or the does the word "dear"......grate on other peoples' nerves too?

"Dear" is one of those terms of endearment that can can sound sincere and affectionate when coming from someone you're familiar with and trust...........or it can sound condescending. Goes either way. But depending on the tone of voice, other such terms could also be included.

Anyhow........yes.........ending arguments with "whatever" can be very annoying. Although, I'll admit, that I do this myself at times. To me, it seems less irritating when you say it someone who will never be open to seeing your point of view and believes they are always right. So, you get exhausted, because you know there's no point of discussing the matter since you'll be shot down anyways. And you just give up........saying, "whatever."

NOW........what I find REALLY REALLY annoying...........is when someone who has OBVIOUSLY crossed the line.......resorts to saying "whatever" when you try to discuss things with them. I'm talking about the kind of situation where the mistakes are so obvious that its apparent to everyone that the offender should apologize. It's not only YOU that thinks they're wrong. EVERYONE ELSE can see that they're wrong. But they have WAY TOO MUCH PRIDE to admit their mistake....let alone say sorry. So, they just roll their eyes, and mutter a "whatever." And you wonder whether that's a reflection that they're completely devoid of even a drop of consideration for another human being...........OR..........uttering "whatever" is an indication that they're too embarrassed to even talk about the matter cuz they already KNOW how wrong they are.

Re: Rude and confrontational sayings

And is it just me or does the excessive use of the F-word in movies (or otherwise) annoy others too? I can understand the occasional use of the profanity.....but overdoing it is a turn off. When a single sentence contains the F-word after every other word................it makes the speaker sound almost retarded. As if their vocabulary is so limited.....that they can't come up with any other words to express how livid they are. :p

Re: Rude and confrontational sayings

What about:

"Talk to the hand!"

"Okey Dockey!"

"Neva'mind!"

"Yeah Right!"

" Anyhow, so as I was saying before I was rudely interrupted......."

etc.? :-)

I think using "dear", "My dear" or "whatever", is still better than showing bad emotions or cursing. Somehow (rather politely) the person should be allowed to show disagreement or frustration.

Like when they say...........

You are either with us ...............or against us!

kinda rude............:(

My personal favorite:

"EVERYONE ELSE agrees with me/thinks I'm right."

My thoughts when someone says something so asinine? A. Define everyone else B. And that's your argument? I have more friends than you do? What is this? Grade school?

Variations on this include:

"EVERYONE ELSE does the same thing."

Yeah? So do lemmings.

Idiots...

P.S. Mamaof3 - go you for using the word persnickety. It's a great word. No one uses it anymore.
