Mine was huge! I was nine and Ramadan fell in the summer, so days are 14 hours long. It was a combo - roza khushai and Ameen. My mum made me a beautiful gharara which I wore with appropriate jewelry. Sab kai saamne, I read duas and ate khajoor and my first bite from this special meethi thaal she made out of rice and coconuts - the name of this dish escapes me right now.
And yes, I got lots of presents (there were 100+ guests including family).
As my mum says, is sai bachon ki hosla afzai hota hai. So it's a reward and acknowledgement of a child's "coming of age" and acceptance of his/her own religious obligations.
So, even if there's no big to do or party - the parents should take the opportunity to reward the child and express their pride in their child's acceptance of their religious obligations.
i think i was around 5 or 6. didnt do the sehri and announced i am fasting. mum told me to go for chiri roza but i held on till around 3 and then was absolutely famished and wanted to break it, so my mamoo brought on board games and we willed away hours till iftar and i dont remember any fuss, infact i dont even remember iftar.i do remember that fast wasnt to be broken carelessly.
Share your memories of your first roza/fast.
In Pakistan I remember many families used to celebrate first roza of their kids with lot lf fan fare. Iftar Party , presents etc etc . Oh yes the photo in the newspaper too.
Mine was not this eventful. My daughter fasted on first of Ramazan this year. I told her all that but she did not think it was a big deal , so no celebration . The only things special, I did for her was to give her some money as gift after Iftar and BBQed some baby back ribs specially for her which she loves. Her mama made lots and lots of iftari stuff of her liking.
