Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu related that Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said "Whoever fasts Ramadan because of iman, seeking reward from Allah alone, will have
his past sins forgiven;
whoever prays at night during Ramadan because of iman, seeking reward from Allah alone, will have his past sins forgiven;
and whoever passes laylat al Qadr [the
blessed night] in prayer because of iman, seeking reward from Allah alone, will have his past sins forgiven."
[Bukhari and Muslim]

Abu Sa'eed al Khudri reported that Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said "When a servant of Allah observes fasting for day for the sake of Allah,
he thereby repels the fire of hell a distance of seventy years."

asalaam o alaykum!
I have read that the best time for the acceptance of dua is after the adhan of aftar (moghrab)and before breaking of fast. This brief moment is most auspicious, as one wishes to hurry to open, but stops oneself to pleads to his Exalted.
:)
some ppl ask for what truly want (eg. acceptance to a university)
during the maghrib prayer.
With my parents, the time immediately before breaking of fast is ( i am told) a time to ask Allah. Now I am not sure if it is a tradition or something more, but I know a lot of people usually make duas right before the breaking of fast.
