Its about aqeedah. I shall give you one example.

On the occassion of Mairaj, the Prophet SAWS ascended to the heavens. There he met past anbiya. He lead them in Salat. The famous incident where the Prophet Moosa advised the Prophet to go back to Allah SWT and lessen our daily prayers is well known.

So the question is if they were all dead and buried who did the Prophet SAWS lead in congregation?

RasoolAllah SAWS was bashar no doubt but he is same bashar who Allah SWT has declared Rehmatulalameen. If the other anbiya were alive and well and then why not the holy Prophet SAWS?

Btw I agree with your point about raising the maqam of the Prophet to almost a deity like. Like others have done and which we, from this ummah are probably destined to do!
