Royal Opera House blah blah

What kinda place is this and what would you wear if you’re invited to such posh place?

Re: Royal Opera House blah blah

something posh innit.

Damn this insomnia and damn this flu; I feel cursed to wander the threads of GupShup, haunting them with my comments!

As for the ROH: assuming the performance (you are talking about attending a performance there, and not just some function hosted the the ROH?) takes place in the evening, it would be considered a "semi-formal" (or black-tie) affair. For women, this means wearing a floor/full length evening gown. The gowns themselves can vary in style, shape, and modesty-level.

Re: Royal Opera House blah blah

:O Roxx, clearly you are trying to get hareem to embarrass herself.

unless you are going for a black tie function (or are sitting in the most expensive seats and want to look poncey), it's just smart attire.

if you're going for a performance and in the normal people seats, it's the same as what you would wear to a posh restaurant.

a non fussy dress, or nice skirt and top with heels will probably be fine. don't under dress but don't overdo it either.

"General Rules:** **There is no dress code for visitors to the Royal Opera House. Informal evening wear is the most adopted attire but is not a requirement."

"Is there a dress code?
No. Most people dress fairly smartly (in the week, many come straight from the office), more so in the more expensive seating areas. But you won't be thrown out for wearing jeans, and many dress casually. A small number of people wear evening dress, but these days it's unusual. It's much less dressy here than most opera houses in continental Europe.
Temperature control is not great, so it's best to wear layers you can take off in summer or add on in winter."

Re: Royal Opera House blah blah

What shall I cover my head with?

Re: Royal Opera House blah blah

teacloth.

Re: Royal Opera House blah blah

^Thank you. I don't wanna get thrown out.

Re: Royal Opera House blah blah

I'm sure you have some nice hijabs that will look appropriate with the rest of your clothing.

I confess, lol! A thousand apologies! ;-)

Sadly, I think we might indeed be more poncey in the US; you'd (unofficially, ofcourse) be expected to dress formally for an evening performance or event at (say) the Metropolitan Opera House, but the atmosphere and attire is slightly more relaxed for daytime performances/events (business casual). I like the suggested ROH attire better, as it doesn't require that you get dolled-up just to watch a performance (it's not like you're going to be on the bloody stage); you can just relax and enjoy the show.

Re: Royal Opera House blah blah

nice dress suited for the weather.

when I attended the ballet/opera at ROH, I wore pastel chiffon dresses since it was May/June time.

Winter time--generally more black, add a strand of pearls....:)

yes, "semi formal"--like going to a nice restaurants......all men did wear suits and majority of the women had dresses on.

:omg:

Awww wow....that must've been wonderful. What did you watch?

Re: Royal Opera House blah blah

I asked my English friend if it's okay to wear hat indoors and she told me that I should wear the scarf coz it'd look nicer. I'm not sure if I'm attending or not,....fingers crossed.
