roti

So I’m not very good at cooking at all, but I have been making an effort to learn since I’ve moved out with hubby and have to fend for myself! I actually do want to learn to be a good accomplished cook.
I’ve managed to get my rice just right, but no matter what I do I can’t make nice rotis! I
I’ve gotten my atta to a consistency where I can work with it (how long do you knead it for?), but my roti sticks to my board when I roll it out, or I end up putting too much flour on it to stop it sticking that it just tastes so dry. As for the shape- that is a whole other story they are never round!!!
And why does your roti shrink when you put it on the tawa?!!! (My tawa is actually quite good it’s one of those super duper non stick ones)

Please help and share your tips!!! Ther’s only so much rice a girl can eat.

Re: roti

throw some kecha aata i.e powder ata on the board before u place your roti on it.roti sticks cause its moist.kacha aata will absorb the moisture and then it wont stick.then circulate it between your hands which will increase its size and make it thin and then put it on the tewa.then hold a chimta and drag the roti over flames which will inflate it.
hope this helps in one way or another.
btw i love dipping roti in tea and then consuming it.

Re: roti

after 1 year of cooking i m still not able to make round roti................. one thing which i do is keep my ata after kneading in wet cloth............. by doing this my atta doesnt change colour n remains good for making roti..........but still not round roti :(

Re: roti

Round roti majorly depend on how you make the "paira/paida" and how you roll it out.

To make the atta less sticky, make sure you don't put in too much water..... put a little at a time and knead it a lot, I also mix some oil in it in the end to prevent it from sticking to the bailan or counter, then I use only a little of dry atta to roll out my rotis.

I've never experienced the roti shrinking problem, so don't know why thats happening with you
