roti

Re: roti

Funguy: Are you any good at making roti???Why would I applaude myself after I have eaten when I dont even eat roti?

Its not fair!!! I dont eat roti but I still have to try and learn to make it beacause the others in the family eat it and of course I am being told that I have to learn before I get married!!!

Anyway no matter how hard I try to practice they never turn out right, I always put too much atta on it an roll it with a rolling pin, I dont even try to clap it between my hands, I will try again.

Re: roti

Farah_no, one important tip for best roti is kneading the flour to turn in a smooth dough as much as you knead flour, the result will be fine. If you use more aata on it the roti become hard. Try this tip you will make fine roti in few days, best of luck.

Re: roti

We dont actually knead the atta by hand, we use one of those Kenwood Chef machines... in fact i dont think i can remember a time we havent had one in our kitchen. It makes it a lot faster to make the atta, but it still takes some practice to get the proportions of water and flour right - i nearly always end up putting in too much water at first and then have to add more flour.

and Jias is right... the perfect roti's start with good smooth dough, its easy to forgive a roti that isnt round if the texture is good.

Re: roti

ooh thats posh KWAZY KITTY... an electric atta machine...cool!!!!

Re: roti

eat nan bread instead of roti :k:..

Re: roti

yeah i sumtimes buy pitta bread from tescos!!!

Re: roti

I only like PITTA's when use a little water and oil and then heat it on Tawa. Otherwise its taste like eating a Dough.

Re: roti

We got a new kitchen recently and my mum (somehow) found a company that sells electric Tandoor things (dont actually kno of thats what they're called but you make nans in them). We havent used it yet... its so bloody huge and no one's really sure how to use it! (We have a smaller one in the garden that my mum brought over from Pak).

Anyway, my friends uncle works in a restaurant and when he found out we got one he said he'll help us the first time we use it. Tho, i cant even manage to put my hand inside the small Tandoor without burning myself.. dunno how i'm gonna cope with this one!
