Rose Water: How to & Uses

A couple days ago I received a bouquet of roses (which doesn’t happen often :naraz:). I picked out the good looking roses and stuffed them in the freezer to give along with Eid gifts. The rest wilted ones, I picked off the nasty petals and set the good petals aside, thinking I could treat myself to a nice bath.

BUT, my desiness kicked in and my brain went boinggg :ahaa: at the thought of rose water. We used to have a bottle of rose water looooong time ago when I was a younger, but I never knew what to do with it?! So, how do I make rose water and what can I do with it? Plz share your recipes and tips!

Oh, the roses were red and a few were a light lavender, in case that matters. :tubelight:

So, I boiled the petals with about 32oz of water. I think I left it to boil a little too long because it has a strange smell (does not smell like roses) and after straining, the color is darker than rooh-afza. I remember what we had long ago to be a clear liquid and it did have a nicer fragrance to it.

Not sure if I did this right. Anyhow, its in a bottle in the back of the fridge.

Re: Rose Water: How to & Uses

The clear stuff is made by distillation, which setting up at home is very difficult (I looked it up. It's very hard. Totally not worth it). That's why it looks clear. The stuff you make at home still counts, but because it's not distilled it looks all chai like. Typically you just soak the rose petals in hot water for a few minutes, until it changes color. Strain it to get rid of all the petal bits and what not, and store it in a clean bottle or container in the fridge. You can use it as a toner or a cleanser. It still smells good, maybe not very rosey like the commercial stuff, but good nuff. :D

Re: Rose Water: How to & Uses

Next time you can try making Rose Oil

Re: Rose Water: How to & Uses

Thank you Lilly! I’ll do that when the next time someone decides to send me a bouquet of roses :halo:

Re: Rose Water: How to & Uses

Next time use warm water not boiling . The water should be be cool enough that you can leave your finger in it for 5-10sec.

Thank you arabianights! I had a feeling my water was way too hot, hence the strange smell. I'll try your tip next time.
