Rooting the Samsung S3

Anyone rooted/modded their S3?
I’m currently running the Blazer ROM (1.6). CyanogenMod 10 (with Jelly Bean) is out, Alpha (not even beta yet) for review too. We should be seeing early beta releases by mid August.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S III Club @ GS

I wont let her touch it for now like this. But I will experiment with my set if and when I buy it ;)

Re: Samsung Galaxy S III Club @ GS

Guys,

I need to find the best rootkit that works on Mac OS X. Odin seems to be designed only for windows.

Plus any app that can create a complete backup of my phone? (app settings, contacts and photos) like iTunes does? ClickFree and My backup seem to back up only the .apk files.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S III Club @ GS

Oh yaar, don’t call it root kits. Its a utility to root the S3

You need ODIN to install the initial ClockWorkMode (CWM) Recovery. Once that is done you boot into the modded recovery and run ROMs from there. All the good stuff is found here:

Team Epic: CWM Recovery on all SGS3 LTE Variants

ODIN’s Windows only!!

CWM Recovery lets you do a Nandroid backup, which is a full partition backup, sorta like imaging the hard drive, so you can come back to a certain ROM state whenever you want.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S III Club @ GS

rootkit is slip of the hand... dealing with rootkit viruses tu munh per charha hota hai :D

ODIN k ilaawa no other utility that runs on Mac?

Re: Samsung Galaxy S III Club @ GS

No ODIN for Mac, but if you can follow the ADB software tutorial in Terminal here’s a link:
Odin and Mac - xda-developers

You still need to download and install the drivers for Samsung from their website. Odin part is pretty small. You can either borrow someone’s PC or use a Windows VM on ur Mac (like i do).

Re: Samsung Galaxy S III Club @ GS

I was gonna try running on VMFusion. But I just found this link on XDA website

Going to give it a try.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S III Club @ GS

An update. Heimdall does not work for SGS 3 yet. It works for S2 though. It flashes alright but does not create a recovery image where I can install CMW thing.

May be will root using Odin on windows virtual machine.

Re: Rooting the Samsung S3

I had tried that and it didn't work for me. I thought maybe you could get it to work. Fail!

Once you have CWM installed you're home free.
