I remember in the novel, The Kite Runner, Baba says that ever sin is a version of stealing or theft. For example, rape involves the stealing if virtue/dignity. Murder is the stealing of another’s life. What do you guys think about this?
Although the biggest and unforgivable sin is shirk…do you think that every single sin involves shirk to some degree? For example, committing a sin…especially when it’s intentional…involves putting your desires before Allah’s commandments. So, can it be said that every sin involves shirk…to some extent?
I guess that baba from the movie is trying to equilibrium sin vs righteous/good deed. Not every sin lead towards "Shirk". By quoting reference from Holy Qur'an, if a person have soul #2, then there are less chances of involvement in "shirk". However, in soul #1, very easily with strong chances can commit of shirk. Soul # 3 is immaculate from sins as well as from shirk. Almighty Allah describe three types of Nafs (Souls) these are:
1- Nafs Al Ammara means the soul which command us
This type of soul command us by any possible means towards of our wants, desires, angers, construction of an ego, habits etc., and to maintain it without any regret.
2- Nafs Al Lawwama means the soul which blames us
This type of soul have some level of inner struggle going on with the self i.e., with commanding soul, we provoked by commanding soul but this blame type of soul gain some sort of control over it by saying oneself that 'do I really wants my wants, do I really need to follow my desires? Do I have to be angry, Do I need to construct my ego, Do I need to keep this or that habit' etc., This soul blame us if we done something wrong and let us regret on that.
3- Nafs Al Mutma'aina means the soul which keep peace in us
This type of soul is known as perfect soul. In short which gives no value at all of this material life but awaits for eternal life as mentioned in Holy Qur'an.

Discuss.
I think you can say that every sin involves a degree of Kufr, but not Shirk. Kufr is takfeer, which I think means denial of existence of Allah. Every sin is denying his commandments, so its like denying him.
