Rome Experience

Just a week ago, we made a short visit to Rome - Italy. At first what hit me was the high prices for everything that was necessary to survive, a one liter bottel of mineral water, which would cost only 30 cents somewhere else, costs 4 Euros, a small bottle of coke, 3,50 Euro in the places.

It was VERY VERY hot burning hot, the kind of summer that you would normally experience in Pakistan, we would look for shaddy places to stand, there was so much to see, but the sun made it untoleratable to capture everything with the camera or to go on long walks during midday, so we used the morning and evening time to do most sight seeing, which was nice even…

Also noticed the many American tourists around, it didnt bother them that the roads, walls were ful of anti american slogans, like “stop bush”, “stop war”, “yankies go home”, I think we pakistanis would be more nicer in our attitude, even if some are anti American, a guest in a country is a guest.

Rome is not a clean city, the car drivers dont follow the road rules, its a jungle of cars, vespas and tourists.

Lastly, crime rates are high, you would hear the police cars rushung every few minutes.

Italian people are very friendly, they have a nice sense of humour and their females .. mama mia :Pretty:

Plus I got tanned. :sunny:

Sair sapaata shuru ho gaya? :)

Good to hear that you had a great time.

Btw, Sana and I went to Paris 2 weeks ago. That was really nice too.

^Glad you had a nice time, Saadia!

I want to go to Italy, Greece, Spain, and France in Europe. In North Africa, I’d like to visit Morocco, Egypt, and Jordan (Petra ruins).

My priority is to go to Italy though…am planning a trip with a friend for the Fall as I have some vacation time coming. It’s pretty exciting.

Missing Austria in that list. :(

^Austria, Czech Republic, and Switzerland, etc. are pretty historic as well but I wouldn't put them on my immediate priority list. No hurt feelings I hope. Hehehe.

i am surprised to hear that since i didn't find that in other parts of europe(anti american slogans).

also how can u tell if a tourist is an american? i mean i cannot really differentiate between an american or a german unless i talk to them.

Umer Yes, I saw the pictures that you sent me, it seems like you guys had a good time yourself in Paris.

sweetpie Good to hear that you are planning a trip to Italy/Europe, I hope you enjoy your stay here. I see that you did not include Turkey in your 'must see' list. I wouldn't miss Istanbul, you know.

heart beat Well, me too, I didnt see these slogans anywhere else in centeral Europe. I even captured it on my camera, lets see if I might post here, incase some dont believe me or something.

As for telling which tourist is American or not, well I can as I have lived and visited American many times, plus I live in Europe, I do can tell, the way they dress, look, talk, its quite obvious for me, btw the Americans would go around in big groups and you could hear them talking, american english accent...

That´s the easiest thing in the world. It´s sooooooo easy to tell that someone is an American tourist. Even if they are of Desi origin.

Hey Saadia, I'm planning to go to Rome aswell. Where did you stay? Is it really that expensive? :-/

Umer, I wanna see Paris pictures! (please?)

Saadia, Umer: well i am in the usa and was in germany for a while but i still cannot tell if its an american or a german. :-D i am guessing u specifically mean "American Tourist" in tourist areas. i guess as u already mentioned the way they dress(perhaps i am not that observant about that but then again i am a guy or furthermore not a european :D)is perhaps different. and yeah ofcourse one can easily tell an american accent.

so i guess you won't be able to tell if s/he is an american just by looking at their face? cause if you can then i would certainly like to know how...i can post pics of my friends from both usa and europe and you guys "spot the american" :-D (i don't intend to sound racist or rude) :-)
its something like "spot the pakistani(from an indian)"

Shinno, I stayed near Termini, (main railstation) its a high rated crime area, I would not go alone there.

Its expensive as lots of tourists, so main thing like water, soda are expensive as to if you buy them from some store, like there was one in the railstation, otherwise its a rip off situation.

Basically there is a lots to see, expecially if you are interested in ancient archiology

If you want to know the exact cost of hotel, them PM me and I will tell you the name of the place and the figure. I actually ordered over the net, expedia.de!

Yes it was hot a few weeks ago but it is very pleasant right now!

Some parts of Rome ARE unsafe but generally it's a very safe city.

Shinoo, hope you enjoy your stay.
