Can anyone elaborate the differences between these two in simple english ? Thanks
I don’t know if I should be comparing them to Muslim sects or not but…
Roman Catholicism is like the Christian version of Barailwism and Protestantism is like the Christian version of Wahhaabism. Of course not entirely like the Muslim sects much below them but you get the idea.
The primary school my parents sent to me was a Church of England (Protestant) and I know a little bit about their beliefs and what goes on at the church like how they worship, hymns, the Lords prayer, supplication, the Lords supper and their marriages and baptisms etc.
Some of their differences which I know of are:
Protestants only pray to and worship the trinity that is God, Jesus (peace be upon him) and the holy-spirit who they believe are a three in one god.
Roman Catholics together with worshipping these three also worship Mary (peace be upon her) and the saints.
Protestants don’t believe in the infallibility of the pope or his authority over the Christians and they do not consider his words to be like those of the Devine.
Roman Catholics believe that the pope is infallible, he is the head of the church and when he is speaking from the top of his throne thing in his groovy gear his words are the same as if God had spoke them.
Protestants don’t believe in the intercession of Mary (peace be upon her) or the saints.
Roman Catholics put a lot of emphasis on the intercession of Mary (peace be upon her) and the saints.
Protestants have two main rituals, baptism and the Lords supper, the latter they consider to be no more than a memorable meal.
Roman Catholics have a few more rituals too, and they believe that when they are eating the Lords supper, the bread turns to Christ (peace be upon him)’s flesh and the wine into his blood in their stomachs.
Protestants believe that the sins can be forgiven by repenting to the trinity.
Roman Catholics have to confess their sins to the priest who I think will either have them forgiven or forgive them himself I’m not quite sure.
Protestants are not as quick to dismiss other Christian sects as disbelievers.
Roman Catholics believe they are the only true church.
Protestants only have one source of guidance that is the Bible, which includes the Gospel of Jesus (peace be upon him), Psalms of David (peace be upon him) and the Torah of Moses (peace be upon him).
Roman Catholics also have a number of other authorities like the pope and the saints.
Protestants do not believe that Mary (peace be upon her) was born sinless.
Roman Catholics believe she was.
youre right for the most part from what I can tell, except for this one:
Roman Catholics believe that the pope is infallible, he is the head of the church and when he is speaking from the top of his throne thing in his groovy gear his words are the same as if God had spoke them.
Catholics in no way believe the pope is infallible. That sounds like protestant propaganda of sorts. He is the head of the church heirarchy, but still a man. And, yes he's required to wear those funny hats.
